I Want to Get Lost
I want to get lost in the pages of a book
To lie on my feathery pillow and curl up in a warm, soft blanket
While cold winds blow outside my window
And a fire crackles in the hearth.
I want to wander through the pages
Exploring places far away
Riding the seas in search of treasure
Fighting alongside a motley crew
I want to discover a distant planet
With jungles and plants that have never been seen
To ride through galaxies filled with stars
And meet a race of little green creatures
I want to lie in golden pastures
And smell the fresh country air
I want to ride on dapple grey horses
And make my way to the county fair
I want to get lost in the arms of a lover
To feel his kisses on my lips
To dance under a moonlit sky
And let true love find me at last
I want my skin to crawl and a quiver run up my spine
As I walk through a dark alley at midnight
Looking over my shoulder for goblins or ghouls
The screech of an owl making my heart race
I want to join in the chase for a vial immoral beast
With anticipation so peaked I can’t put it down
As the clock ticks away, I’ll tear through each page
Until the despicable criminal is found
I want to get lost in the pages of a book
And go some place far away
To lose the heavy burdens of life
That I have to return to each day
Take an adventure through a book!
Books can take us places we may never get to visit; to countries around the world, or places on the far side of moon beams. We can relive the past and forge the future through books. We learn of heroes and heroines as examples for our lives. We can live the life of an Indian Princess or feel the pain of a wandering homeless man; experience the joy of true love or the bitter disappointment of love unrequited.
Books can be our best and dearest friends. They give us comfort without being judgmental and stay with us as long as we desire them. They are a true gift that continues to give.
