Carved "Jersey" Birds...Photo by Stephan
Carved "Jersey" Birds...Photo by Stephan

It's November here at the Jersey Shore, and what Beautiful sights to see...The Leaves are now, Red, Golden, and Brown, and so many have dropped from the trees. Each day our Green lawn gets more covered... A sign that Winter is around the corner...And yet, the Roses Keep blooming.

We still walk the "Boardwalk" Lover Man & I, and Marvel at the "Surfers" looking up at the sky, doing their thing, wearing their "Wetsuits"... as their bodies, soak up the rays, sent from above. And on Beautiful Sunny Days such as this one today, we put off the "Indoor Chores" for that rainy day... We look at the Beach, and see those that have lived here for "Generations"...Sitting on their Chairs, or a Blanket, and Reading. The "Summer People" have long gone, and the Beach is theirs once again to Enjoy. They are said to have "Sand in their Shoes"...a compliment we hope to earn someday.

It's a different Life Style here on the Jersey Shore...Maybe it's a slower pace, which most of us seem to Enjoy. When you see someone you know, you can actually stop and talk. I do this quite often. The other day, we were to an "Art Show", at our Beautiful Library, that is located practically on the Beach. I notice one of the "Artist" staring at me. He has long hair, with gray running through it, and it's tied in a long pony tail that goes down his back. I say, "I know I know you"...He says pointing at me and smiling, "Capricorn". I smile back at him, as I point to him, and reply, "Aquarius"...and then we both Laugh. So here's my confession... I'm not good at remembering names, but I NEVER forget a "Sign"... Which in this case turns out to be "Fred" and his partner, "Buddy", a "Virgo". Fred, afterwards, told Lover Man, that he never forgot that about me.

Lover Man & I are starting to notice some of the Birds on the Beach are forming that "V" formation, in the sky, as they Mentally, and Instinctively, get ready to Fly South for the Winter. "Hey, I yell, wait for us"... For we too plan to go South once again, at the end of the month, only we will drive...Each of us taking a turn at the wheel...Forming our own "V"... We will stay at a place near the Beach, for it's the same Ocean that we will be leaving... And we will come home once again, in the Spring... with the Birds...and "Sand in our Shoes".

Oh how I loved this. We have so much in common. Every time we get another warm sunny day I have to head for the beach thinking it may be the last warm day of the season and it makes each day all the more special, knowing this magical weather will soon end (even though I'll be going the way of you, lover man and the birds).

Voted up across the board except for funny.

Votes up! I want you to know I truly honestly love your stories. I don't know what it is about them, but I know you speak the truth and how you feel and maybe that is why????? Thank you for your comment earlier also. I was big on the signs when I was younger. I am a Capricorn. I always believed in it. I just always felt like it meant something. The birds are leaving but you two love birds shall stay for the I wish you 2 nothing but happiness and every dream and wish you make. I mean that. I have always been able to sense emotions, don't know why. I just sense you have a big heart full of love. And also that your a good person. I am glad we are friends. Take care, give Lover Man a "whats up", and I pray for much happiness to you both and your life's surroundings. See you soon and take care.

Beautiful b. You make me oh so jealous. I would love to live the life of a beach comber, wild young and free. Wild and free at least lol Although I am a Pisces and supposed to love the sea, I actually feel more at home in the lakes. The countryside is where my heart belongs. When I was little I remember often hearing the Canadian geese flying over and rushed out on a crisp winter morning to watch the v formations overhead. No point in following them, they all stayed to rest at a lake about 3 miles away from where we lived. But I did go and feed them occasionally.

Lovely description of the Jersey shore, b. In case you really want to know how the lead bird in the V formation is chosen, Simple. He is the bird that chose the short straw.

Naw. Just kidding. He is really the only one who owns a compass. :)

We really do Gail, both of us living near the Ocean and walking the boards. So you guys are "Snowbirds too"? I must emphasize, we Don't bake our bodies in the Sand...We always have an Umbrella, and our books when we sit down...Thanks for all your Wonderful Comments.

Hi Vanaya, so glad you found my Hub a Beautiful Read, what a wonderful Compliment.

Oh Bluestar, the last thing I want to do is Make you jealous...I certainly didn't have this life when I was YOUNG and Free...It took us many years of Working to now Follow the Sun...But we are Conservatives, so NOT big spenders.

Some of my best lady friends are "Pisces"...It's such a Talented sign. Thanks for all your Wonderful Comments.

Either way DRBJ, you are too Funny...I kinda wanted to say something like that when I was writing this Hub, and I guess I got sidetracked...I guess I needed a Compass!

Yes, when you live in a climate that is not year round summer, you must take advantage of sunny days in November! There aren't many here (in B.C.) although today is clear. I like to walk when the weather is agreeable. If it's cold, I can always speed walk!

Oh PLEASE that "Jersey Shore" is definitely NOT S. Jersey Shore. It really isn't the show that is watched here! Anyway PDKKaraokeGuy, thanks so much for Loving this Hub, I am so pleased.

We pack up our "Mac's" when we head south and they come with us...So I will definitely be writing, the only time I stop is when we travel there. DRBJ is so, so, FUNNY and Humor and Laughter is the best Medicine to staying Healthy...Thanks again for Loving this Hub!

Isn't it funny how guys with gray in their ponytails sometimes know you by your sign? "Hey babe, what's your sign?" was the cool line from their time. Wow. I rhyme. You made it sound so romantic and dreamy. (Hey, I could have said sublime.) And the way you wove some rhyming into the prose. It really was beautiful! Absolutely felt as if I were there with you. Smiles. They should have a button for that.

It is a Wonderful Life Dexter...more layback... and maybe not for everyone, but it works for us. I'm so glad you Enjoyed this Hub.

Hi Movie Master, it took some planning and Life allowing us to live here...We are eight blocks from the Beach, but it's a nothing walk when the rewards are the Ocean! Thanks for your nice Comments.

Good rhyme Peg, after all you are a Poet! That's such a nice Compliment, that you felt like you were actually along with to my descriptions and prose. Thank You!

Hey Bobbi, Thanks for your Thoughts and my Picture and Prose, of the Jersey Shore...and a Special Thank You for your Vote.

Thank You WillStarr, for Enjoying...We don't head South till after Thanksgiving.

I would love to have "sand in my shoes" too! I do live on the coast, but it takes a while to get to the beach. I loved the idea that you are going to visit the same ocean that you are leaving - in a way, you aren't leaving home at all! Thanks for another lovely piece of writing.

Nice hub. My mother always said, the older you get the faster time goes by. That did not make any sense to me as a kid, but now i understand what she meant. I still can't believe it is November already. Hope you enjoy your stay in Florida. Maybe next year i too will be in a better position to spend winters in Florida and summers (for me)in New England.

Mothers always seem to be Right...and when they are gone...they are so Missed. I know D. Williams the times is flying and we can't wait (like the birds) to leave. When my kids were growing up we lived in New Enland. But the Jersey Shore will beckon... and we will be back once more.

I've never been to the Jersey Shore, but can imagine it is beautiful...different...with its own special beach view, tree scent, soil/rocks, made me want to visit there. Except not in winter! :-)

b. Malin profile image

b. Malin 5 years ago Author

Actually Frogyfish, winters were bad here, hardly saw snow and because of the salt from the Ocean, it never stayed for long on the ground. However, the last 3 years, the Snow has been here a lot...and now I'm NOT...Going South in less than 2 weeks, can't wait! I will take my "Mac" and Hub from there.

There is romance laced in the telling of this story, heading off to the beach, down the coast, a step ahead of the cold. You sprinkled this with your magic.

PDXKaraokeGuy profile image

I live in Portland, Oregon and, due to our temperate climate and sea level altitude, we don't get much snow. However, about three years ago, we had the "storm of the century" and have 8 feet of snow for two weeks. The city shut down. We really are wimpy about it. My brother lives in Chicago and he says they don't even use chains out there. Crazy!

did you mark this as poetry? it reads like free verse, with rhythm and rhyme. i enjoyed it so much.

i have strolled the Jersey boardwalk, chatting with a friend, staring at the sea, noting how it bends.

Why Thank You Mckbirdks, I guess I am a bit of a Romantic at Heart...and of course leaving the COLD behind is the biggest Thrill for us. I am Humbled by your Comments and thrilled at the same time, for your writings are the Greatest my Friend.

Hi KaraokeGuy, I lived in Conn. many years ago and winters sometimes went into April, once saw snow showers in MAY...Needless to say, I hated it! But I do understand where your brother is coming from. The Jersey Shore, as I've said, for the last 3 Years has had it's share of Snow Storms now SOUTH, we go!

b. Malin profile image

You know I'm not sure I did Storytellersrus, because I just sit down with an Idea, or a picture and out it Flows, so I really wasn't sure where I would be taking this piece. But Thank You for Enjoying what I had to say.

When I walk and talk with Lover Man as we stroll the Boards, looking out at the Ocean, I am always Overwhelmed by it.
