I'm A Window Without The Dressing
With A World Of Choices
A chose to be plain
I feel with so many other windows to compete with why be like them
They are different and wonderful in their own way
Each have their special qualities and wonderful flair
They open from the top or the bottom
Some crank and others slide
They can be as enormous as a Bay window or tiny and small
Holding an airconditioner tight in the unbearable heat
Each has many coverings that catch the eye
Only with one purpose to cover what's already there
You pay a lot for a window to look out and see the world we live
I have seen curtains of every size, shape and color
All kinds of material that make them heavy and thick for those cold winter nights
Also light cotton to make them airy and almost invisible
Decorated with every pattern and style
When you uncover a window what do you see ?
So simple and neccessary
Framed so perfect like a picture centered just right
You have such pleasure opening me up wide
On a cool day when the wind is blowing
To capture that breeze and to cool your home
Then on a rainy day stop the wind and hard rain
Keeping you dry and not to come any closer
In the winter time to keep the cold out
Then once again bring in the morning sun
Finding a way of waking you so you can go on with your day
I am not just a window
I am your view of beauty that awaits
So unlike my competitors who cover their frames
Each draped with everything from shades to blinds
Next time you open a window
All I ask can you open mine
