Imposter: A Poem
Sociopath/Narcissist
Con-Artist or Sociopath
Have you ever known a con-artist that you once believed to be a decent person
Poem about a Con Artist/Sociopath
Their unexpected meeting left her hungry for more...
little did she know the terror in store
Her beautiful green eyes sparkled at his chivalrous show
was this destiny before her? she surely hoped so
Seemingly chance encounter is what she surmised
but time would expose, a charade full of lies
Every move he made, was part of his plan
to make her his own and make him her man
Handsome and charming; his words flowed with ease
his actions so perfect, there's no doubt they'll please
The wolf in sheep's clothing would gain the girl's trust
so portraying a good image was an absolute must
His deceit would accomplish what he had planned
he promised true love and asked for her hand
The imposter revealed his true self within days
she'd now have to live with his sinister ways...
Inspiration for my Poem:
This poem was inspired by a true story of a dear friend of mine. She met, what she thought was the perfect man for her. He was charming, seemingly loving, adorned her with gifts and shows of affection, and pretended to care. Soon after their wedding, he revealed the 'true' him. It was not only a nightmare for her, but a great loss of the man she thought she married. Her dreams were shattered along with her self-esteem, safety and trust in people.
She has found healing after leaving this destructive relationship and currently teaches violence-free workshops throughout her community. Her favorite quote after going through an abusive relationship with a Narcissistic Sociopath is: "I can now look back and see he was one of my best teachers. He taught me many lessons; what to look for in relationships and letting go of the belief that everyone is what they appear to be."
