I wholeheartedly believe in the power of positive thinking and self belief. I believe that in life if you work hard and think with all your heart that you can achieve something, by all means you can. Let me tell you a quick inspirational story.
A Desperate Woman
About 10 years ago I met a woman on the streets of London, I often stop and talk to people I barely know. I love learning about people and finding out about their life experiences. This lady looked clean and pretty normal. However, it turned out that she was actually homeless, she was sleeping in a train station bathroom, and spending most of her days in the local library. I would see her every day, but on this day I decided to stop and talk to her. She asked me the time, and I responded. She then proceeded to tell me her entire life story, I listened with attentive ears and wondered why she decided to tell me her story and not anyone else.
Anyway, she basically told me how her two children died, and her husband left her. She used to have a successful business and after her husband left her, she hit rock bottom. I was so saddened by this and I asked her if I could write an article about her because I was doing a series on homeless people and how they manage to survive on a daily basis. She agreed, so I proceeded to formally question her about her life. She told me so many surprising things, and she seemed very positive for someone who had been through so much.
Fast forward eight years, I bumped into this same woman in a Starbucks in East London and she instantly recognised me. She was wearing a business suit and looked very happy and positive. I asked her what she was doing now, and she told me that she had recently set up her own business. She was running a graphic design business in the city and she loved every minute of it. She had just moved into a new apartment, and she was rushing off to a meeting. I was in shock because although the lady looked clean and quite happy before, she looked like a different person. I asked her what happened, and how she managed to get out of the situation she was in. She basically told me that I had inspired her with my words. I could not even remember saying anything that could have inspired her. She said I told her that she needs to remain positive and keep believing that her situation would change. Those words actually helped her and inspired her to totally turn her life around.
My motto in life is, if you do not like something, do something about it. Do not sit depressed in your situation and live the rest of your life miserable. Work hard to get yourself out of that situation and push yourself to make something better of yourself. I truly do believe that, if you change the way you think, you can change your life. Self belief is everything, and hard work is the key to success. So, combine hard work with positive thinking and self belief, and we have winning formula. One of my favourite artists ever, Michael Jackson was asked in an interview in the early 90's what is the secret to success. He replied "Hard work, dedication, keep working and working and never stop until you get there." He also said that you need an insatiable self belief to make it through. Notice that most of the greats are people who have gone that extra mile, and while everyone is snoozing they are working their tails off to make their dreams come alive.
My message here is this, never give up, keep dreaming, working, and never stop believing that your dreams can come true. If you put your mind to it, you really can make it happen.
