LIZARDS

for Jim Morrison

by Justin W. Price

We are born as narcissistic lizards,

bald and wrinkled. Our only talents

are eating and shitting,

drinking and pissing.

Sleeping and suckling

affection we need

only for ourselves. Our parents endure this,

hoping that someday,

we’ll grow into people.

Thanks Mommmy. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Sadly, this is how I view children. I know it's not fair, but it's true. For me

I like the photo of Jim Morrison. Just not sure I like being compared to that of a lizard? lol! ;) teasing of course. Interesting thoughts...

Hi PDXKaroke Guy...IO wrote a poem about Jim Morrison entitled Beautiful Creatures....inspired by having "met" him once and attending his concerts many times. A truly beautiful albiet conflicted and mystifying creature.

Powerful thoughts. To think that people turn back to bald, wrinkled lizards, doing the same thing they did at birth... Interesting read! Thanks for inviting me to read it!

Thanks, Packer. I just found his poem about human beings being born as lizards to be so interesting. Thanks for reading and commenting and for the compliments.

Dude YOU STOLE that from the secret MOJO MAN poem files! Okay, you really didn't but the poems good enough to where it could have been by Jimbo himself.:)

somethng blue,

I have Morrison's The Lord's and the New Creatures. I don't find his poetry all that inspiring on paper, but, when he performs it, typical to slam poetry, it's just amazing. Some art work is like that. I'm pleased that your addictions have not yet killed you. Let's keep it that way!

Thanks for reading and commenting and keep in touch!

Jim has been an inspiration to me and others, and we share a very similar background, the difference of course is my addictions haven't killed me . . . yet

Ever heard of a book called The Infinite Harmony which basically proposes the idea that the Prime Creator sang everything into existence?

Perhaps music offers those that embrace its power, a special conscious contact with the source, TPTB know this and encourage overdose, addiction and suicidal tendencies and perhaps even murder . . . ?!

Just a thought!

Hi PDX,

I like it. I see why you may want to add to it but I think what you have written though short stands on it's own.

b. Malin, it was actually longer and then I cut it. It started getting into the realm of being judgmental. I'm glad you enjoyed this. We'll see what happens!

Jim Morrison died much before his time...always remembered for his Talent. Excellent Poem, KaraokeGuy, loved the line, "Our Parents endure this, hoping that someday, we'll grow into People. Maybe the Poem is finished...what more is there to say...you have said it.

audrey, I'm hoping to go through a publishing house, even a small one. the idea of self publishing isn't that appealing to me and it's very costly.

PDXKaraokeGuy profile image

audrey, I agree. this very well might be done, but i feel like it might need more. Needless to say, I'm trying to get published which means most of what I post on the hub will be drafts. you'll have to read the finals in book form :-)

howtohandbook, thank you!

Mathira and Vinaya, thank you both. I enjoyed this one!
