My Firsts

This is a personal hub about the “Firsts” of some experiences in my life. Happy ones, funny ones, silly ones.

◦•

1) First Job

I hated speaking on the phone for the first week as I thought everyone was listening to what I was saying and pretending they were working.

◦•

2) First taste of Sushi

I have always pulled a face at the thought of eating “raw fish” but one day a friend insisted on taking me to restaurant to try it. As soon as I ate it, I kept on patting my head. (It's hard to describe but you feel a hot, tinkly feeling in your head). I actually liked it – it didn’t taste of raw fish.

◦•

3) First Driving Test

During the Test, I drove on the Curb. Needless to say the Test was terminated immediately. I don’t know why they can’t take “nerves” into consideration. Lol.

◦•

4) First Bank Account

It meant a lot to me. Dad opened an account for me on my 18th birthday and deposited a large amount of money. Oh, I love my Dad!

◦•

5) First Car

It was a Toyota Corolla. I could drive it but didn’t have a clue about the running of it. Twice, I put water in the Radiator, leaving the cap on top of the car and then drove off, forgetting to put the cap back. I had to buy new ones. Doh!

◦•

6) First Ice Skating experience

This was Disco Ice Skating with a friend, in the O2 Arena and I fell on my bum so many times, it was hilarious. I had to always ask to be pushed a bit, to get my skates going. There was a member of staff, on ice who showed me how to start too. That's me skating in the middle below.

O2 Arena, London - Ice Skating

7) First Police Caution

Naughty Girl! I was in a hurry to go to work and took a short cut which was meant for only buses. (It clearly had “no entry” but I thought no one was watching and guess who pulled out of the corner with flashing lights? I still remember what I said to the Police "I'm so sorry, that that was a stupid thing for me to do and I won't do it again." (shaking in my boots) They were actually nice and let me off with a word of caution. (Hopefully, first and last)

Eiffel Tower, Paris

8) First Boyfriend

I was good in my teens and brought a friend home to just chat and watch TV. Well guess who came home from work early? Dad!!. He never came home in the afternoons but it turned out he brought back some food to be cooked. Oh… he wasn’t pleased and asked my friend to only visit when he or my mum was in. So embarrassing. Dad!!!!

◦•

9) First Bible

This was given to me while in Secondary School. It was a small red Gideons given to all students and thats how I got interested in Christianity.

◦•

10) First Time in Paris

First time on Eurostar too. Well, No one had any rest until Elena had been to the Eiffel Tower. I also remember looking at the Metro map (very confused) telling my friend it looked like “spaghetti”. Beautiful place, friendly people. Photo above - me on the First Floor of the Eiffel Tower. (I'm standing infront of a space/science capsule).

◦•

11) First time I rode a bike

My friend taught me and it was frustrating because the pedals kept on rolling back. I still can’t ride a bicycle.

◦•

12) First Published Article

Ofcourse was on Hubpages. I never knew I’d be writing on the internet for months and months.

◦•

Do you have any interesting “Firsts” to share?

.

Lady E, Wonderful hub of firsts! What an enjoyable, hilarous read!

Hmmm Here's a first! My first time driving in a car with the steering wheel on the right hand side was when my husband and I were visiting London, England... We got lost and ended up having to have a "Bobby" (police) help us out! Guess what He put his hand out and stopped the traffic and told us to turn around and gave us directions how to get to our destination... Again great article!

Thank you for sharing, In HIS Love, Joy, Peace & Blessings!

Thanks Lady E, for sharing your firsts! Speaking of driving tests, I recently read about a lady in Korea, that finally passed her test after 652 attempts! So, hitting the curb on your first try is "no big deal". I remember first meeting you on HP maybe 9-10 months ago. Always have enjoyed your writing, and our friendship... Ciao!!!

What a novel idea Lady_E, I enjoyed your firsts. Mine? Oh, well the first time on an airplane was a hoot, the first time I died was an eye opener, (no they weren't the same) My first pair of eye glasses filled me with awe at how detailed the world REALLY is, and... oh... well we won't talk about that one!

A great list! My first car was a 1970 Mercury Cougar that my parents bought for me. They described towing the car away for repairs as a monthly bill, along with gas and electricity. First day of kindergarten-- I had never seen so many kids in one place. I was led into a room with kids everywhere. As an adult, I suspected this must be what be led to a prison cell block must feel like (my opinion on kindergarten has softened since then).

My first job was substituting for a woman on maternity leave in the mail room of a business that printed paper and envelopes. The amount of mail was amazing. So much is now through email, skype, etc. that most businesses probably don't have a mail room any more.

A great list. Thanks for the peek inside your life.

Mike

Hello Mike - Wow, you still remember Kindergarten. Mercury's are cool cars, hope you enjoyed it. That was so sweet of your parents and they helped you with repairs too. Aaaawh...

Thanks for sharing your story.

lol.... first police caution! If that was your first, what was your second?

My first car was a purple ford capri - m reg with steel fins, overhead cam and vinyl roof. I was a bit of a girl racer/poser at 18. 1986 was a fine year to hang out at Stringfellows in London, disco dancing with the stars - depeche mode, duran duran, wham and culture club. Oops, I have just given my age away! Watford girl goes happy hippy! hehehe

Great hub. Makes me my remember my first job and the silly worries I had. As you get older you realize how silly some of these worries were. I remember working as a receptionist as my first job and I had to greet people, and I was worried about how to even talk to people and say hello.

Thank you so much for sharing all the firsts of your life.I think the first experience of anything in life is very very special, because when one get used to with anything-it becomes more like a habit.I still remember the first day of my first job, the whole day I was looking at my watch to see when I could go home.

Hi Lady_E. As the saying goes there's a first time for everything. If the first time doesn't work, to keep trying until something works out. It'll be interesting to have a first to the moon and back. Tall dream, but one can only wish.:)Good hub.

Great hub! (Pat writes) - makes me remember my first job, as I felt exactly the same. It's funny to think that I imagined that all the other people in the office had nothing better to do than pay attention to me.

Also - I never mastered riding a bike.

Hope everything is going well for you.

This was fun to read Lady_E! I keep thinking about having a first ice-skating experience, but think I'll end up watching everybody else instead!!!!!! Voted/rated.

Also: Read the hub about mobile phones and interviewing, no comment section there, but wanted to say I think it's a great idea. Actually participated in a few of those, only there was a big recorder and all got to see it and it was somewhat embarassing (for me); the mobile phone usage is more private and you get to make the decision to share or not. Voted and rated it.
