Our Poem
What is a Poem
A poem is defined as:
1. piece written in verse: a complete and self-contained piece of writing in verse that is set out in lines of a set length and uses rhythm, imagery, and often rhyme to achieve its effect
2. writing with poetic effect: a piece of writing that is not in verse, but that has the imaginative, rhythmic, or metaphorical qualities and the intensity usually associated with a poem
3. beautiful or delightful thing: something particularly lovely, beautiful, or delightful
A poem we learn from the above definition is musical; has imagery and intensity; is a thing of beauty and delight. A poem is a creation formed from delight and sadness; love and hate; hope and dispair: courage and fear; imaginations and reality; acceptance and rejection; wisdom and foolishness; simplicity and complexity. Our Poem was all these things. But, the point of a poem is its story. Our Poem was not an arrangement of words describing love. Our Poem was our love. Rather than a collection of written words, Our Poem was a collection of feelings and desires. Our inspiration was our dreams, our emotions set the mood, and our message everlasting. Our Poem was a voice sometimes shouting from mountain tops and sometimes only a soft whisper between us, but a voice that still echoes in my heart and soul. Our Poem was in the noise of a family gathering and the soft silence found in lying with each other. An unwritten poem (something particulary lovely, beautiful or delightful) can be a place in your heart that remains forever. My heart is the keeper of Our Poem.
What is a Poet
A poet is defined as:
1. writer of poems: somebody who writes poems, especially as a vocation
2. somebody imaginative or creative: an imaginative, creative, or artistic person
Our Poem was the world we created around each other. We were the searchers, the recorders of our visions, preservers of our faith and the advocates of our love. We also were the listeners of Our Poem. It was an aural piece of art, it sang with our love and we listened with passion. It was: our reminder of our bliss and pain; our wonderment and our disappointments; an expression of our anger and our greatest pleasures; our search in faith and devotion; our acceptance of our fears and our accomplishments; it was filled with our power and our weaknesses; our journey; the path we walked and the cadence with which we strode. We were the creators who lived in our creation, Poets.
Our Poem
There was poetry
In the tenderness of your
words, touch and glances.
There was poetry
In the devotion you gave to
God, country and family.
There was poetry
In your expressions
of desires, dreams and devotion.
There was poetry
In the warmth of your smile,
In your wink of a flirt,
In the tenderness of your kiss.
There was poetry
In the depth of your love,
In the heart of your dance,
In the strength of your embrace.
There was poetry
In your “I Do”,
In the tear of your good-bye.
You are the poem I keep in my heart.
