Politician's Ode

By: Wayne Brown

One monkey don’t stop no show

That’s what they say

Maybe one monkey don’t

But maybe one politician does

And no one stem the flow

A rollin’ stone gathers no moss

That’s what they say

Maybe one stone don’t

But just maybe one politician does

And still we suffer loss

Life is hard, harder if you are stupid

That’s what they say

Maybe life is hard for us

But so blameless for one politician

No matter the things he did

A bird in the hand, worth two in the bush

That’s what they say

Maybe we have one in hand

But the politician has two in the shrub

Killing our world with oily slush

Nothing venture, nothing gained

That’s what they say

Maybe we venture not

But the politician gets the gain

Oil is flowing, nothing tamed

It’s a sad, sad, sad state of affair

That’s what they say

Maybe sadness is our fate

But the politician has a smiling face

Dark waters, does he really care?

One for the money, two for show

That’s what they say

Maybe we got the money

But the politicians runs the game

Oily world, stem the flow

Such is life, cuts like a knife

That’s what they say

Maybe we live, maybe we die

The politician makes the rules

Black death, America pays the price

If I were a politician I would say "ouch" but as I'm not I say this is wonderful, Wayne! Certainly fitting and not an ounce of untruth.

Wayne,

Good summary of the presidential and congressional circus.

Very true. But one thing I keep on pointing out that everyone needs to keep in mind; not one politician gets to KEEP his job unless we keep on voting them back in time and time again. I hope this time around the dissent is real from the American people, and we aim for November to be a SWEEPING change. If that doesn't happen, and we vote a lot of the old dogs back in, we have nothing to complain about.

Well said!

And Springboard is absolutely right--people keep voting in the same problem children--yes, children! For that's what they are--immature, self-centered little children playing at being grown up and running wild on power trips. The old "if I can't be captain, you can't play in my backyard" sort of attitude is runnning our country these days!

@springboard...right on! I have a couple of hubs that say just that. If we are stupid enough to do, then we are stupid enough to deserve. Like you, I hope sanity will prevail at the polls soon.

@DML....You are right on the mark. As Waylon Jennnings once sang, "We need to change....!" WB

I haven't met or seen a politician yet that wasn't a crook. They are all self serving. Let's not blame the new guy that inherited all the crap that the oil administration put out. The off shore drilling regulations were loosened under the previous boss. The same one that got us in a war (based on oil) for his and his cronie friends' greed. But anyhow, I like what you wrote. It was a great expression of how you feel and very creative. I love your work and your way with words. Great hub!
