Pantoum for the Holy Spirit

A Poem for the Spirit that connects us all with the power of love

Introduction

My understanding of the Holy Spirit has grown over the years. When children from Christian families are taught their faith from an early age, the third person of the Holy Trinity is full of mystery and symbolizes purity.

I believe that she is more than that. She calls us to be the best humans that we can be, and to rally together against the dark forces of the universe that are bent upon separating us from the love of the Great Spirit. That means everyone who worships a higher power beyond themselves - not just christians. She beckons us to help one another for the greatest good of the greatest number. She calls us to find peace and joy in the diversity among us, and to be the love of the Great Spirit for one another.

This pantoum is my dedication to the Spirit that boldly reveals her message in each of us in a multitude of ways, especially in the 21st century.

Rainbow Arc Connecting Souls to the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit Celebrates

I.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of all

She is rest for the weary.

She is our soul's very freedom.

She strengthens the bonds of love between all creatures.

II.

She is rest for the weary.

She laughs for joy at sunrise.

She strengthens the bonds of love between all creatures.

She is the compassion that arises from deep within.

III.

She laughs for joy at sunrise.

She sings "hallelujah" at sunset.

With arms outstretched she welcomes all sentient beings.

All creatures are fed and given refreshing drink.

IV.

She sings "hallelujah" at sunset.

She thanks the stars for the hearts that shelter her.

All creatures are fed and given refreshing drink.

All peoples find a home in her love.

V. The Holy Spirit Promotes Peace

She thanks the stars for the hearts that shelter her.

Her peace is bestowed on all who labor for love.

All peoples find a home in the Holy Spirit of Love.

All peoples find peace in the shadow of her wings.

VI.

Her peace is bestowed upon all who labor for love.

Those who join hands to sing and dance are blessed.

All peoples find peace in the shadow of her wings.

Swords turn into ploughshares so that all are fed.

VII.

Those who join hands to sing and dance are blessed.

Chants, hymns, and anthems rise to heaven on angels' wings.

Swords turn into ploughshares so that all are fed.

None thirst who trust in the wisdom of their hearts.

VIII. Dancing to the Rhythm of the Holy Spirit

Chants, hymns, and anthems rise to heaven on angels' wings.

Drums beat the rhythms of saints and sages.

None thirst who trust in the wisdom of their hearts.

Their dancing turns their tears of sorrow to joy.

IX.

Drums beat the rhythms of saints and sages.

Tambourines and flutes make a joyful noise together.

Dancing turns tears of sorrow to joy.

Peace reigns in the hearts of the just.

X.

Tambourines and flutes make a joyful noise together.

They herald the age of peace and justice.

Peace reigns in the hearts of the just.

In their dance is their power to heal.

XI. The Holy Spirit Inspires Justice through Acceptance

They herald the age of peace and justice.

True power lives in people who wear flowing gowns or bodies full of tattoos.

In their dance is the power to heal.

Both men and women celebrate the beauty of creation.

XII.

True power lives in people who wear flowing gowns or bodies full of tattoos.

They lead the world in a sacred circle dance.

Both men and women celebrate the beauty of creation.

Gods and goddesses rejoice when we sing with voices full of harmony.

XIII.

They lead the world in a sacred circle dance.

The holy spirit is our soul's very freedom.

Gods and goddesses rejoice when we sing with voices full of harmony.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of all.
