Prose - What You Missed
Memory preserved
Petrified
In my mind
Washing ashore
Rolled by the tide
Something for you to find
You never knew
What you missed
In me
Instead you embraced
The current popularity
We smiled
And I was known
To you
But I was safe
My mystery
Offered no clue
Lurking within
Was a future
Buried in the present
Under shallow domination
The root was unsure
I knew
Of the silent kiss
Time
My keeper
Whispered its promise
I thought
For a thousand years
One day
I spoke
And moved you to tears
You wondered
Where did this come from?
How can he know
Of life
What has he become?
Future intrigue
Arrived
Unprepared
It was time
To come alive
Your dormant state
Challenged
As never before
You see in me
A giant oak
You cannot ignore
And now as I change
Again and again
Can you understand
How the past
Is not your friend?
Its journey
To the back of your mind
Must begin in earnest
As you shed what you were
And join me
In the forest
Of who I am
And who you may become
Because once
You held me down
And now I'm the one
Who must decide
If you are worthy
Will you impede
Or constrain
My developing story?
