Sharing Poems

Updated on February 2, 2012

Why Not ?

I seen a local add about a writers group that meets the first Thursday of every month

I will just call for more info

So be it fate or chance I happened to pick the local paper up and read this yesterday

I happened to be off from work and I can go

But that was yesterday a whole day away

Then off to sleep and out of sight out of mind

The day went on and then a thought hit me

The writing group meets today

There is still time

So I called the local number and they are meeting at 6:00 to 8:00 and it is held at a local cafe

I checked it on my g..p.s. and it was only twenty minutes away

I could really do this

I have written things before but never read any of my writings infront of others

Then I thought if this is what I want to do

I better get use to doing it or give it up now

In the car I went with a few writings I like just printed out

Just in case I get to share my writings with writers

I heard of open mike nights but I have never seen one

This can be a learning experience

So I called first to see if the meeting was still on

It was and part of me was excited and the other part of me was a little nervous

So after getting there in good time I parked and went in

The place was crowded and maybe 15 people sitting and another 7 standing near

It was a small place and they had a speaker off to the side

I said o.k. lets see what this is all about

Soon the lady who organzed the group took my name

Then later she took the mike

She said there will be a successful writer coming here tonight to share some of her poems

Then when she is done those who want to read can

Because of such a good turn out we unfortuntely have to limit each person to 5 minutes

If longer she will give you the hook

Some of the people sitting down looked in their 60's

Another crowd of young high school students

What a mix

I was right in the middle of both groups

Soon the readings began and a few played instruments too

It was really cool everyone clapped before they got up and after

I guess they were regulars

A very interesting group

All writings were just a little bit different

Then my name was called

I did my reading on Love By Numbers

Since most of the writers before me kept with a Valentine theme

I decided to play it safe

I did my frst reading and when I was done they clapped

That was nice

After they finished the readings she thanked the owners for having us

People started to disperse

Until next time all the poets will return once again

working
