Sign of the Times ( a lyrical presentation of the times)
When the cost of living, exceeds its means, not enough to make the day,
Medicine becomes a business proposition, all over charged in every way.
When landlords refuse to repair your home, unless going up on your rent,
It's time to all move out or just hit the woods, refusing to pay another cent.
It's a sign of the times, a sign of the times my friend...
When almost everything that you do, seems to leave you feeling so blue,
Sometimes it's hard just to get out of bed, to do your chores, if just a few.
It's hard to see through darkest gloom, seems so much that you're doomed,
As bills over your head all to loom. seems your trapped, there's no room,
It's just a sign of the times,a sign of the times my friend...
My Grandpa told me this the other day, the things now are no different in any way,
Back when he was just a kid, seems everything he did, he always needed to pray.
World war I had just taken place, then it was the Great Depression all had to face,
His own father, a pastor back then, guided him well, granted him life, full 0f grace.
It was a sign of the times, just a sign of the times my friend.
I watched my own dad struggle when just a lad, he pulled himself up by his straps,
His life was no daisy, almost drove him crazy, an easy life not dropped in our laps.
He got up off the ground, a better life he found, just made the best of what he had,
This was to be my own inspiration, I felt an obligation, to smile and not be so sad.
It was a sign of the times, just a sign of the times, my friend.
We must take the time to smell the roses, the best medicine in all its doses,
No matter challenges big or bad, around us, all are sad, or what this life poses,
Just look for the goodness in life, despite all of the strife, or what we may see,
When we fall down we get back up, made of tougher stuff, we're meant to be.
Its just a sign of the times, a sign of the times, my friend.
