The Empty Chair
The Empty Chair
A Christmas tree stands tall
Dressed with tinsel and lights
Twinkling out the windows
A beacon in the night
Gifts wrapped in colorful bows
A boxy nest surrounds the tree
Glowing under the fairy lights
They sit and wait patiently
Morning wakes with an excited flurry
Of family and loving embraces
They gather round to share a meal
At the table, they all have their places
In-between the joy and laughter
As they drink and as they eat
Everyone is astutely aware
Of the one very empty seat
Underneath smiles and chatter
There is something a miss
The memory held in their hearts
Of who's missing again, this Christmas
Like bubbles of champagne floating
The stories of her pop in to the air
It fills the hole in their hearts
As they imagine that day with her there
They reminisce of the days gone by
When her laugh would light the room
The tears flow amongst the laughter
As they wait to reunite one day soon
