Thoughtful Thief
Thoughtful Thief
by Laura Summerville Reed
I wear pretty, little silver
chains
that sparkle in the dark,
Lemon Piper music tambourine
I jingle-jangle in your ear
while you keep me in your eyes,
across your fingertips,
firmly in your grasp
Oh! They are pretty,
but chains, nonetheless
tethered to the fences
that I built
all by my own will
On this bed of nails,
come lie with me
and eat the sweetest cake
Let me soothe your pin pricked flesh
with lips that whisper snake charms
rolling off my tongue
and dance this mojo voodoo
tearing at my wrists
Steal all it is you want
Steal,
and never ask
where it is I get these things
I will freely give
To a thoughtful thief
