Trust or Sink
I know how Peter felt that night
out on the storm tossed lake
when the wind rose up to buffet
and the disciples began to quake.
They looked across the crashing waves
where Jesus did appear,
as if a ghost on water,
and then they really shook with fear.
But Jesus spoke and told them
"Fear not, it's only Me"
And Peter said, "Lord, if it's You,
Let me come now unto Thee"
Jesus spoke a single word,
"Come", with hand outstretched,
and Peter stepped out from the boat
as the waves about him retched.
But as he walked toward Jesus,
Peter paused to look about,
was overcome by circumstance,
then, sank in stormy doubt.
The Master took him by the hand
"How little faith have ye!
You looked at the wind and waves
instead of look to Me."
Yes, I know how he felt that night
out on that troubled lake,
when the sting and thrust of wind and waves
led Old Pete to trust forsake.
Circumstance can overcome
and fear will make me sink...
But Jesus is the Master and
I must trust instead of think...
Help me, Lord, to keep my heart
and eyes fixed just on You...
and know that in these storms of life
You 're there to pull me through.
