Two Brief But Lovely Thoughts

As the Monarchs parade.

Fragile palettes of color

sail like imaginations unfurled,

as God's fireworks burst into twin halves

creating temporary explosions of delight,

catching our irises

and making us pupils

of his institutions of love,

granted to all

for just brief moments

in the span of time.

Bottles of Bounty Imbibed.

Nectar of the purple orb,
the red oval, and the white ovoid,
gracing the vines with collective spirits
make my orbs that view you glazed
from your heady concoctions pressed
into aged liquids that soothe the mind,
tantalize my tongue with the sugars
of harvests past, fermented into bliss,
swirl your magic over my teeth and gums
the scent of you intoxicatingly delightful,
paint my palette a masterpiece,
let each swallow sing as it swoops
from the crystal goblet through my lips,
ease the cork from this slender neck
unscrewing ruby splendor,
purple passion, and white heat,
then warm me on this shivery March night,
the cheese is sharp, the crackers crisp,
and my throat awaits your soothing balm.
