What I've learned about cats!
I have learned that just about every expression or phrase you have heard about cats are true and are illustrated on a daily basis! You can check out my source of this knowledge by following this link.
For Example:
scaredy cat....don't they jump at every sound?!
cat fight....one walks in the room, nudges another....boom, hiss, swat...cat fight!
let the cat out of the bag....this one is by far my favorite....with 4 kitty cats in my house, I get the most mileage out of this one!
curiosity killed the cat...another funny one in my house where someone is always getting into trouble because they are poking their nose where it doesn't belong.
"Time spent with cats is never wasted."~Sigmund Freud
something the cat dragged in....reminds me of the night I came home to find a headless bird on my bedroom floor....thank you, Izzy!
and she looking like the cat that ate the canary....again, Izzy expecting a thank you from me....
....and Phoebe grinning like a chesire cat beause she knew I'd freak out....which started a cat fight that caused both of them to take out their claws
"There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats."~Albert Schweitzer
Our 2 newest babes think they are the cat's pajamas when they are snug as bugs in my covers and the big girls think they are the cat's meow when they run around the house talking to us
but none can be sweeter or more loving than anyone is after the even the shortest catnap
"I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become it's visible soul."~Jean Cocteau
A very important sidenote
All of our cats are rescue cats. The statistics on stray cats and dogs are phenomanal. I would beg anyone who has room in their heart and home to adopt rather than buy a pet. I have included a link to the ASPCA. The statistics are frightening. My last 2 babies were adopted through a friend. These are from a family of cats that she has been feeding for over a year. Sadly, they continue to multiply as attempts are made to trap and spay/nueter the older cats and find homes for the little ones. Finnick and Ella were 2 of 4 kitten litter. their mother has been spayed and sent back out with her family. Their siblings were adopted together and I can only imagine how much pleasure their new owners are having because I had the opportunity to meet and play with them also! Kudos to my friend Jackie and her friend Mona who have helped hundreds of cats find homes and brought hundreds of people unconditional love!
My Muse
When the cats away, the mice will play holds a different meaning for my Phoebe. When the cat lays on the mouse, Randi can't type! So, I changed that one: When the mouse is covered and away, Phoebe gets mommy to play. Or.. a good nap!
Please consider this
Now that the holidays are here, people often buy a new kitty or puppy as a Christmas gift. I wanted to throw out a few words of caution here. Please don't buy them unless you are certain the recipient wants them and is equiped to deal with them. Don't bring a fish without a bowl, a kitty without a litter box, or a hamster without a cage, especially on Christmas day. When I was about 10, I received a gerbil as a birthday gift. While I was somewhat excited, my parents were clearly not. My classroom received a great class pet that year! Also, unless you are breeding or showing your pets, please consider adoption. There are so many homeless animals out there! Even if you are seeking a specific breed, you can probably find websites dedicated to the rescue and subsequent adoption of these pets.
