When Life is Good (a poem)
A pleasant dream
I might have had
was something so grand
to make up for much
gone wrong.
When the good news came
I felt so glad
to see that time
hard work
steadfast saw me through.
Walking on a cloud
joyous air abound
a smile spread wide
and ever so free.
Inside I might bust
from the excitement of success
a trill of victory
that so few have known.
As I lie awake,
a thought comes in
of wicked way
and doubtful heart.
Fear seizes hold
a pit inside my stomach
stomps my happy
crushed to parts unknown.
Something good
follows with a cloud
but life is not always so.
Ups and downs
of no rhyme or reason
are part of the flow.
Today I can be happy
memories of tomorrow
saved for another day
darkness turned to light.
