A Poem: No Earthly Place
Pray when I die, do not bury me
Beneath the earth or ev’n a tree
There is no earthly place for rest
Souls flutter on like angels wings
Instead I beg, take all my loins
And toss them ‘bout like gambler’s coins
Against the wind; into the sun
Amidst the raging river’s run
There is no earthly place for rest
Souls flutter on like angels wings
This mortal life finds flight
In nature’s ornamental light
So spread me near the setting sun
O’er mountain wide; O'er ocean tide
I’ll meet you on the summer’s breeze
Where daffodils and willow trees
Perdure my song and dance of life
With clouds and ripples, ever rife
There is no earthly place for rest
Souls flutter on like angels wings
Souls flutter on ....
