Where Art Thou, O Inspiration?
O, Inspiration, you elude me
I wait for your wisdom
My wait is in vain
You taunt, tease, and promise
You flutter around in my head
Like moths around a bright light
O, Inspiration, you are quite evasive
Our relationship is but a dance
I try to follow your lead
But you twirl around me
You make my head spin
I am dizzy from this dance
Breathless and exhausted
My hands reaching for you
As a child reaches for a firefly
And seeks to trap it in a jar
O, Inspiration, you cannot be captured
Like that firefly you, too, will die
Your light will be extinguished
And I will be left with hands empty
Perhaps if I still myself for one small minute
You and I will be in sync
Until that day comes we will continue to dance
And I will savor the small pearls of light
That you leave on my pillow
In the midst of night.
