Whispers of Truth: Three Inspirational Poems

What I asked for...

I asked for clarity and it came to me.

It broke my heart, but it set me free.

I sought truth and truth appeared,

Revealing to me what I had feared.

I felt betrayed, but it was I

Who expected more than a life of lies.

And so I stand at this open door,

Knowing my heart wants so much more.

Truth is bold-it stands alone.

And, I am grateful for what it's shown.

Heartbreak

Narcisstic Love

Shards of glass slice my heart,

splintering it into miniscual pieces.

Each breath an inhalation of pain.

Crystal fragments of grief.

Your disregard presses into my chest

like a boulder crushes the sweet innocence

of the rose freshly awakened.

This yearning to be seen...held...loved

leaves me breathless and bruised.

No surgeon's touch could have opened my heart

and exposed it's raw vulnerability

with the precision of your aloofness.

Where is the mercy?

Beauty

The Lotus and the Sunflower

The Lotus flower blooms

Not in the bright of day,

Like the amber Sunflower,

Whose smiling face nods in agreement...

But, from murky waters far below the surface,

Rising to unfold the loveliest of petals.

Two wonderfully written poems from the heart. Love and beauty go hand in hand. Yet the ugliness can surface from time to time as romance fades and another is jilted for the other, because they think the green is always greener on the other side. Not always the case.

Love is so elusive like a butterfly it is is flighty and hard at times to hold before knowing the tender powder on their wings must blow away in the wind.

Thank you for these great poems, your breath some fresh air into my day with your tender heart. Peace

Beautiful poems, and images, very soothing and touching! Lotus and the Sunflower is my favorite one.

BTW, the title of my book which I am soon publishing is "Whispers of Truth".

Denise - Awesome job on these poems. One of the most important lessons that I instilled in my children was, "the truth shall set you free." Your poem "Whispers of truth" is a great reflection of that. It also reflects a deep inner sense of knowing and trusting in the process. The answers will reveal themself.

Narcissistic Love - I have felt the razor sharp shards of glass and the raw vulnerability that one feels when dealing with a narcissist. Not to mention, the crush of innocence and the bruises of the heart.

To close with the lotus flower, represents much healing. Life and purity.

All three of these poems were amazingly beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing.

@VioletSun-Marie, Thank you for your comments. I don't believe I knew the title of your book...how synchronistic. I'm looking forward to its debut. Please keep me informed.

@Sage-thank you for reading and commenting. Much appreciated. I wrote 'Lotus' sometime ago-reflections of my spiritual work. 'What I asked for...' is more recent, part of the spiritual process as well-asking for clarity. It is often a bittersweet meeting then, when Truth appears...which led to the poem: 'Narcisstic Love'. I'm slowly working my way through this labyrinth. The writing is an expression of the process. I know you understand.

Bayoulady-I'm glad that you enjoyed the poems and can relate to them. Clarity--so important in life even when we do not want to 'see' what it reveals. Thanks for commenting.

Denise: We corresponded by email a couple of months ago, where you asked me about my book, and I shared I was writing "Whispers of Truth", and also shared about my meditation cards, which you wanted to purchase when I am ready to sell. Perhaps you can check your old emails. The ISBN for "Whispers of Truth" is registered with Amazon.com and I made mention of it in my profile, facebook and twitter. Several of my hubpages followers are waiting for the publishing. I was admittedly very sad when I saw a hub with the title of my book, as it takes away the opportunity for me to promote the book via hubpages which has good ranking in Google, and felt let down. In any event life goes on, I am now encouraged to finish the book, as I have another, a children's story that I want to publish in honor of my late nephew.

Denise Handlon profile image

Denise Handlon 6 years ago from North Carolina Author

Marie-I am so very sorry for this fluke. I must have had that title in my subconscious when I chose a title for this hub. I am most willing to change the title, as it is more important for me to right things here. I certainly do not want to mess things up for you.

Ok...how do we do this? I don't know if I can edit the title, but I can pull it off the site completely, can't I?

Let me know, Marie...seriously.

Hi Denise, what a profound poem you wrote here. It sure made me close my eyes and listened to the sounds of truth in my heart. Beautiful! :)

Reading your comment exchange with VioletSun, I had to smile thinking how you must have been touched by the title of her upcoming book. Marie, I know (as I have told you before) it's going to be a bestseller woohooo! What a nice soul you are Denise for changing the title. Hmmmm ..as for pulling it off, that would probably mean you have to delete this hub and rewrite a new one. That way the url would be available? Just thinking aloud. :) But then we would have to invite everyone who commented here to come back and comment again. LOL

Have a wonderful week ahead of you Denise as you continue to write beautiful stuff from the heart. Blessings, love and light.

Denise Handlon profile image

VS-I am not certain that changing the title was as helpful as I hoped to resolve the problem, after reading Ripplemaker's comment. I'm still working on this.

CleanLife-thank you for the read and for voting it up. I appreciate your comments.

Ripplemaker-I'm glad you read through all of this. OMG--I really thought the 'problem' was resolved by changing the title. OK--are you saying that by editing the title it does not change the URL??? Why wouldn't it?

This is quite a problem b/c the title and URL really belongs to VS.

Hi Denise:

I'm not into poetry in prose form.

The one I thought was fabulous is: "What I asked for..."

The rhyming and cadence is wonderful.

Keep writing,,,'specially rhyming poetry!

Regardless of my comment on "prose" poetry, you write what makes you happy doing it.

Qwark

Denise Handlon profile image

Denise Handlon 6 years ago from North Carolina Author

Hi Qwark-thanks for stopping by to read the work and comment. Much appreciated. I am open to all. It is a process of learning combined with what I am experiencing. The prose: Narcisstic Love, was an example of that experience. For, it is not a true, unconditional love. If anyone has been the recipient of a narcissist's attempts at love, they know how shallow it can be.

This is my first hub of poems, although I have included some others in hubs I've written, (Joy, & Simplicity of Being). Thanks for your feedback. :)

Hello Fiddleman. Thanks for reading this hub and leaving your comments. Most appreciated. I'm guessing you're from the south? Curious where you grew up. Welcome to Hubpages and I'm very interested in reading your work. Self publishing is something I am looking into.

Hi Denise, I grew up about 10 miles South of Hendersonville, NC. Self publishing now is very easy but don't expect to make any money. I will admit I am not the best at proof reading and maybe get in to big of a hurry most of the time but those who have read my books tell me they enjoy my style of writing. I order several copies and sell them locally in restaurants, barbershops etc. For me it was just accomplishing something I thought I never could do that gives me a sense of personal satisfaction. If you'd like you can go to my Lulu.storefront or simply Google my real name Robert Elias Ballard and some of my work will be available to preview. Thanks for becoming a fan.

Denise - I am awe-struck after reading your two wonderful poems. What a gift you have! The narcisstic poem is magnificent. (It reminds me of someone who I am trying to forgive for deserting my son and her 4 children). I am overjoyed that I have found you here on HP's and am one of your biggest fans. May you have peace and joy and a whole lot of love!

Denise Handlon profile image

Denise Handlon 5 years ago from North Carolina Author

Hello my dear friend, thank you for your kind words. What a shame that your son and children were deserted, but, let me assure you that it is no fun being in a relationship with a narcissist. It may have been a blessing in disguise. I have to chuckle about the mention of two poems. You are not the first who said this, while in fact, there are three poems here. Nevertheless, I'm humbled by your compliments. Thank you for the joyous blessings. :)

Beautiful words. You write poetry in a unique way which i like. Short, but with 'tons' of relayed messages and deep thoughts

"The lotus and the sunflower". Beautiful and my favourite of the three. It is so deep.

Dear Viryabo-Thank you for your kind comments. I appreciate your reading of this hub. My poetry is a special part of my writing-I don't do it often, don't always know where it originates, but am always grateful when the heart expresses itself. I wrote 'The Lotus...' quite awhile ago and decided to post it here to see what the response was. Sometimes, it is difficult to know if what is written resonates with more than oneself.

Thanks again for visiting this hub.

bbnix profile image

Oh the world of truth... How can a place be both chaotic and serrene. I suspect truth is really the only place, although life is like that, the shear majesty of it all...

And "Shards of glass slice my heart...Crystal fragments of grief"...

"breathless and bruised" to say the least...

"mercy" my friend...how about we just share a big little hug...

It's like that Lotus flower, "from the murky waters", but where its "loveliest of petals" explode in the light of day and transform our lives, where, much like your poetry, our lives will never quite be the same..

A nice group triad of truth...well done....

Denise, Exquisite journey through the mud to self-discovery by releasing the darkness of lies. Your opening lies disclose the pain which initially is felt as a result of seeking the clarity of truth. The ending lines balance them with the revelation of the beauty of the lotus flower which emerges from the mud.
