Wings of Wisdom

The bird takes its first step
To the edge of freedom
Taking wing
On his parent's wisdom

What will he remember
And what will he forget?
Freedom's cup
Could bring a life of regret

Full of promised choice
His legacy will begin
Free will
To be moral or full of sin

Will the sails of his mind
Be straight and true
With courage
For what he must subdue?

Will he hear my voice
In the expanse of his days
Echoing loudly
As a guide for his ways?

Will he feel my presence
As challenges rise before him
Providing strength
To reject superficial whim?

Will he feel my love
Unconditional and approving
His heart
Always knowing, never doubting?

Will he always remember
The days as a family
Forever together
Even in distant memory?

A beautiful poem about the arrival of manhood and the jitters the family feels when a boy moves out to become a man....

Beautiful metaphor of a bird and it's flight used... powerful imagery and feelings to fall for... intriguingly beautiful... hat's off!

Most of mental health case rooted from family, mostly relationship with parents. It is mean, No matter how bad the relationship between child and parents, it will never be forgotten. And the father like you, you will always in his heart, like your poems, will always be in our heart to remember.

wonderful poem, as always.

Simply beautiful; so often the creatures who live with us are more affected by change than we realize! Bittersweet, my friend.

As I read this I remember Jonathan Livingston Seagull's story...on how he rose above the mediocrity of seagull's life and explore his horizons thus life meaningfully...

great poem as always Suburban...

Thanks to PDXKaraokeGuy I was reminded that I am a complete slacker in acknowledging everyone's comments. I have no excuse except to say that I write a poem almost daily and it takes a lot out of me along with work and family time.... thank all of you... I truly appreciate your kind remarks.

Wisdom is traveling from time to time.

The wings of wisdom are spreading...

and flapping to seek the wind.

Wisdom is learning how to deal with the wind.

Wisdom is learning how to deal with nature.

Wisdom is learning how to deal with pain.

Wisdom is learning how to deal with life.

Wisdom is great learner.

This an inspiring hub. Great job The Suburban Poet!
