You Touch Me

Dancers couple as senses play an interlude of summer into fall

Boots kick through the colors scheme to shuffle through it all

Unraveling missteps to the steady misogynistic beat of my recall

You touch me with the truth by the writing on your wall

============================

Took a walk through the forest and got lost among evergreen's tall

Floated oblivious down shit creek with a paddle far too small

Seduction rained lies laid an old damp trail that exited in a crawl

You touch me with the truth by the writing on your wall

=========================================

Since feeling is first, you bring me e.e.cummings poetic scrawl

Immortal beauty in words I long to meet beyond a shadows pall

Will I ever be more than a phrase on the shelf, but an insipid doll

You touch me with the truth by the writing on your wall

=========================================

Damaged diamonds, all, survivors each of our own human brawl

Newborn souls holding hope under the weight of past ghost's haul

Each time we talk I feel one for the other beyond what may befall

Because you touch me with the truth by the writing on your wall

================================================

This is both a plaintive and a hopeful poem, Amy. I love this: "damaged diamonds, all. . . .survivors. . . . " What an adamantine line!

.....this surely must be Ode to Phil - lol - and you are what I always call a 'Wow' writer - every line takes my breath away with a poetic language uniquely your own - even 'Google' has run out of adjectives to describe what you do best and that is to write and to make each and everyone of your lucky readers to feel special that we are witnessing and enjoying a literary modern wonder of the Hub world - lake erie time 7:15am

Thank you, Nellieanna, for your beautiful, encouraging comment. I especially love when friends let me know when a word or a phrase has meaning to them, because it is a gift I remember everytime I write something.

Since we communicate everyday, Mister C, you know that I am an introverted, private person, and you are one of two people I have shared this beautiful man's name with, I will say that I entertained the idea of dedicating this piece to him, but decided to maintain privacy, except with the few to whom I spoke of him. I knew his brilliant mind and sensitive being would know this was for him, after all, it's the beauty of poetry. So, I look at this as an opportunity to only say that I have never met anyone that I trust more than he. I am astounded when I look into his beautiful open face, which is like looking into a magic mirror, reflecting back who I want to be...strong, but vulnerable, able to be alone, but willing to connect, flawed, but always reaching to be the best he can be, able to feel someone else's pain while dealing with his own. An ode, maybe, but more a prayer, and never with an "lol" behind his name. Although, we are getting to know one another, he is the kind of person where every expression, nuance, and moment would be part of an unending journey. So, I have bared my soul, Mister C, because, as my friend, you know how I like the truth. So, this is mine.

I know, Nellieanna, that you understand from your beautiful pieces. Some element of each one written by you touches me in some way. I also see the depth of that common thread in the comments from all of your readers. I think that connection is why writers write. I appreciate you so much because you, Nellieanna, open your heart, draw other's in and share so beautifully.

Stunning poetic metaphors as always, Amy, that never fail to touch my heart. But I must admit that your soul-baring comments to Colin touched me even more - if that is possible.

Brava. You go, girl!

Dearest drbj, You always, always blow me away with the depth of your understanding and, even more, your intuitive nature. There are very few people that can say to me "trust me", where my antenna doesn't go on high alert. But, I more than sense, I KNOW, that when you, drbj, say "Trust me", I do without question. Thank you for your most beautiful, endearing words.

Do i sense a special person in your life? Oh i hope so. This is perhaps the diamond who shines brighter and brighter. You can see the hand writing on the wall or perhaps it's a wait and see, either way, I wish you much happiness..

Dear Ruby, Yes, I've met someone that I think is an extraordinary person. At this stage of my life, I am enjoying getting to know him. I'm just being me instead of pretending and it's very freeing. And, of all the strange things, he likes me, quirks and all. I feel at ease about taking my time and he is the same. In the past, I married two different men after knowing them for 3-months. I have found I love living alone, as I need some solitude. I like living independently, but I also miss human contact; seeing and talking with someone everyday. Thank you, my friend, for wishing me happiness, because I know you wish that for me whether I am alone or not. You are a wonderful friend, Ruby, and I am so glad to have you in my life. The hub and the people I have become acquainted with are a real part of my daily life and those special friends that I feel especially close to, like you, Ruby, make my life so much richer, so much better. Love from St. Lou to you, my friend.

A very heartfelt poem Amy. I'm so happy for you. Everyone deserves a chance at happiness and we all must find the courage to permit ourselves to experience it when a real life opportunity arises. Wishing you much health and love always Amy.

Maria.

Amy Becherer profile image

Amy Becherer 4 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

Thank you, Maria. I appreciate your kind wishes. Some days I vacillate, as the damage through the years makes it really difficult for me to trust, even my own perceptions at times. I have to battle my own demons that make me run for cover when I feel enveloped. I want human contact, but in small doses. I've been run over too many times by dominant personalities and I cannot abide control anymore, now that I've lived alone for a little while. It literally makes me cringe. When someone gets close I have to step back, because I am always waiting for the same old issues to resurface. Time will tell. I may be unfit for human consumption, as I seem to be drawn to the pure, steady, loyal love of canine companion. I am hoping I can enjoy a balanced, yin and yang kind of human love relationship. Hope springs eternal.

Another creatively done poem. That wouldn't be the Facebook wall would it? Your poems always conjure up all sorts of images and thoughts. Passing this on.

Amy Becherer profile image

Amy Becherer 4 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

Oh, I love your statement, Gypsy, that my poems conjure up all sorts of images and thoughts. I don't really participate on Facebook except minimally. It feels too invasive to me...but that's just me. I think it's a great advertising mecca for promotion, but it feels voyeuristic to me...like posting a personal diary and I shy away. But, I'm so glad you mentioned it, as I wouldn't have even thought of that, which really puts me behind the times of interacting in today's world. Once again, Gypsy, you've opened my eyes to a new concept. Thank you for giving me something to think about, my friend.

You can never be more than a phrase on a shelf, an insipid doll., dear Amy. You ,despite what you say, are worth far more to the world. You bring beauty and battles, sense and sanity, truth and temerity to the proceedings. You say it like it is, you share, compare, dare and double dare. You are a jewel among insipid fakes. You shine without and you shine within. Only sometimes I feel you may be distracted from seeing your own light. What a wonderful poem. I always feel elated, somewhat disturbed but always stimulated by your literary endeavours!

Great poem, Amy. Well done and well written. And, ditto to everything Docmo said about you and the poem.

Amy Becherer profile image

Amy Becherer 4 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

Dear Docmo, You've left me with words where I read them, think, get up, think, pace, sit back down, think and reread them. Well, o.k., I'll admit I had to repeat the process! It's difficult to express how touched I am by your words, other than how sincerely over the moon I feel right now. Every person is such a complicated mix of genetics, upbringing and emotions that the way one processes their life experiences is impossible to decipher logically from another's point of view. I am only able to express myself through what makes me who I am. I don't want to be even somewhat disturbing, yet I am compelled to be honest. The fact that you see the nuances behind the obvious leads me to believe that you do understand, and if not understanding, you catch it, you see it, you know. It's the reason I write, Mohan. Your message to me tells me I do have value. You tell me that every time you read something I've written and leave me a comment so beautiful, it will be part of me forever.

ExoticHippieQueen, I love your name; I think I'll have to listen to Mountains rendition of "Mississippi Queen" in a minute, although I'm sure it's less exotic than you! Thank you so much for reading my piece and leaving me an awesome comment.

As always, Suzette, when I see you've left me a comment, my heart skips a beat. Thank you so much and the comment I left Docmo applies to the words you so generously inspire me with on my work. I sincerely hope that you know how much I value everything you tell me. It is because of your words that I see poetry in a whole new way and I keep writing. You've opened my eyes to unlimited possibilities through writer's like John Donne, that makes me feel like a kid at Christmas time; excited and so happy to be writing. I am forever indebted to you, my brilliant friend.

" Damaged diamonds, all, survivors each of our own human brawl " That line really spoke to me personally. I have felt this way about my own life at various times. Today your words touched me - struck a chord in those hidden places we all have but don't like to look at too often.

Amy Becherer profile image

Amy Becherer 4 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

I am encouraged to know that you find relevance in that line, Jlava. We are all damaged diamonds as no one leaves this earth unscathed. Personally, the difficult times have helped me become authentic and, as a result, have taught me more than the good times. The hard times have made me stronger and more alive. Thank you so much for your awesome comment, Jlava.
