You Walk in Beauty

Innocence afoot puts a white frock on summer's brew

Angelic light illuminates the path you pass through

Shadows crouch low for your unobstructed view

Sisters through life, you walk in beauty times two

============================

The sun seeks your hair alighting a halos radiant hue

Lace encircles delicate ankles above each white shoe

Tiny perfect hand grasps the others for love each drew

Sisters through life, you walk in beauty times two

=====================================

Symbiosis paints a canvas that comes alive with both of you

A landscape that rains tears in your absence the winds blew

Where nature awaits the presence of the love you imbue

Sisters through life, you walk in beauty times two

=====================================

Sweet secrets join twinned whispers across the lawn flew

Lost in each others connected floral dreams you both grew

The palette held a moment in the kaleidoscope of your coup

Sisters through life, you walk in beauty times two

=====================================

Two perfect seedlings blossom into flowerbomb meadows rue

Footprints track new turns from grandma's path you once knew

Still casting the same white light that follows all who stand true

Sisters through life, you walk in beauty times two

Oh Amy this is such a warm, touching poem. One of my favorites. I save all your work. Did you paint the magnificent work of art yourself?

I get lost in your creativeness and want to stay there. Sharing this with everyone, dear Amy!

Thank you so much, vocalcoach. Yes, I painted the picture from a photo of my gorgeous, "all grown up" neighbor girl upstairs and her twin sister traversing their grandma's yard. I couldn't manage to get a full shot as I painted it on a large canvas. I am so thrilled that you like it! You've made my whole week. Sending you love from St. Louis

Sisters through life, you walk in beauty times two - what a perfect line Amy. I betcha Leonard Cohen wished he wrote that line - and the humbled epi-man too.

And I shall pick up on Sommer Dalton's cue and ask EVERYONE here on this page: to sign my petition in having you become THEIR sister!

1. I love how all of this moves me and touches me like no other

(I know the personal turmoil you had in getting this hub published so I thank you for your determination in doing so)

Dearest Epi-man, Your comments times 3 are so beautiful I am over the moon. I just got back from a long, long day helping my Megan with her two sick guinea pigs, then taking her to purchase groceries, only to come home, unload the car and then, the neighbor across the street hollers to ask if Meg's rescues guinea pigs. There, standing in his yard, was a lone, wild guinea pig!!!! As we approached, he bolted into the heavy wooded area a few feet beyond. We searched with a flashlight from the neighbor man for nearly an hour and then he added a halogen light because it was completely dark....and cold. But, we got him! Meg's now has a new fuzzy, white with brown markings, scared, cold, hungry, little Gpig. What an adventure. I laughed to myself on the ride home, thinking that the word is out among the G.pigs of the nation...Megan loves them all. This was an adventure like you'd only see in the movies!

I love, love, love your Top 10 list, Mister C. You make my heart sing. Thank you so much for your support, boundless enthusiasm and encouragement. You make writing and painting so much fun for me it ought to be illegal. I will never find another crazy diamond friend that shines like you do.

Dear Bill, Thank you kindly, my friend. My beautiful neighbor saw some of my artwork in my apartment shortly after she moved upstairs. She commissioned me to paint this scene from a photo of she and her sis at Grandma's house, where they loved spending a lot of time during their summers. She wanted the painting to give to her sister as a gift. Her sis is married and lives out of town. I got to meet her during one of her visits. The two young women are still very close and have an easy, beautiful relationship. I hear them laughing all the time when they are visiting upstairs. They are as special today as they were as beautiful little twin sisters. I hope I captured the magic of their inseparable love for each other in my painting.

I am indescribably delighted that you like the painting and accompanying poetry. It's been said that "every picture tells a story" and their's is beautiful.

Thank you, my sweet friend, Mark. Yes, the painting is done in oils on canvas, which is the case with the majority of my painting endeavors. I have used acrylics, too, but they dry too fast to suit me.

Thank you for your beautiful words, Mark, and you are a generally lovely (handsome) gentleman. I hope you are feeling better these days. You are in my thoughts, my friend.

Dear cmkieshagl, I cannot think of anything that could mean more to my artistic side than your words to me. I am always amazed, Amy, by your choice of metaphors and descriptive language in your imaginative poetry. But now I am equally amazed by your talent for painting in oils, and if this is a small sample then Degas better look to his laurels. You are doubly talented, dear Amy.

Dear Ruby, This will be the page I come to whenever self-doubt grabs hold of me, my friend. You give me courage. I can't think of anything more fulfilling than painting or writing. Creating art that touches someone else, even in some small way, brings priceless meaning to my life. I am sincere when I say that your words telling me I have a gift are the greatest gift to me and I feel as if I've been shaken from sleepwalking through life. I am breaking out the paints and brushes today and taking up where I left off on a painting in progress. Thank you, Ruby.

Amy Becherer profile image

Amy Becherer 4 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

Dearest drbj, First thing I did this morning was google Degas for a refresher. Though I live a rather isolated, by choice, lifestyle, a friend of mine made special mention of the flowers in my painting, reminding him of another famous artistic style. When I looked at some of the Degas paintings, I saw some familarity. I wish I had photographed a "ballerina" painting I already sold because it had a look, unintentionally similar to some of his work. Thank you, thank you, thank you, my friend, as I can always trust you to open my eyes and mind to awareness. I am reclusive by nature and, thereby, prefer my solitary lifestyle. There are benefits in that by way of time involved with art and the artist temperment. The detriment, naturally, is lack of exposure. One of my acquaintances is a rather dry humored individual who is very blase, understated so to speak, about my artwork. Since my layoff, my paintings are only seen by a few people that have expressed interest. My introversion has left me feeling I am a fool to think I might even entertain the idea of calling myself an artist. Because I love the arts, I forged onward for my own satisfaction. Now, however, on this page, filled with people I admire, I feel like Rip Van Winkle waking from a long sleep, resolved to keep painting and writing and sharing what I create. I feel alive. Thank you, my friend.

Amy Becherer profile image

Amy Becherer 4 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

No, Mhatter, THANK YOU. For an insecure person, there is no such thing as redundancy regarding laurels. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for words that let me know I am not a fool for staying the course in my determination to keep my brushes to the canvas and my pen to paper. Your words matter to me. Thank you

Thank you so much, miscellanea, for your kind words. I created the painting first for my neighbor upstairs in the apt building where I live from a photo of her and her twin sis as little ones at their grandma's home. I wrote the poem afterwards and hoped she would like it, too. I saw her the other day and she told me she loves it. I was worried after I went ahead and published it that she might not. I'm so relieved to know that she is o.k. with it. I am delighted that you stopped here and left such a lovely, encouraging message. Thank you, miscellanea.

Amy, I could not resist reading this one and I am so glad I did. I don't have a twin but, I had a childhood friend that was as close as any sister could be. Your poem took me back to that time when we were inseparable, two little blonde haired girls skipping through life without a care in the world. Althout life has taken us in different directions, we have a bond that is yet unbroken. No matter how much time and distance separates us, when we see each other, it is as if we have never been a part. What a gift that has been. The painting and the poem are both powerfully endearing. Thank you for sharing them both.

Dear Linda, Thank you for taking the time to visit my painting and poem. How lucky you were to have a childhood friend that was like a sister with whom you enjoyed the relatively short period of an idyllic, carefree time. You were blessed young with a rare, unbreakable bond that holds sweet, forever memories. Thank you for sharing your story and leaving it here with my painting like the beautiful gift that it is.

Amy, the painting is beautiful. Those two little girls are precious. Are they someone you know or knew - is this from your imagination. This is a a beautiful poem of twin girls. Sisters, and brings back so many memories for me of my sister and I (not twins) when we were young and growing up. You are so gifted and talented in your artistic talents of oil painting and poetry. You are a double force! Voted up and shared!

Amy Becherer profile image

Dear Suzette, This painting was commissioned by my neighbor upstairs, a lovely young woman who wanted to give this as a gift to her twin sis. She gave me a photo of the two wee ones at their grandma's house. I got permission from my neighbor to apply artistic license and went a bit wild with embellishing the rather stark yard. Since my neighbor chose a large canvas, the tree and florals gave the painting a bit more interest without detracting from the two little girls. On a smaller canvas, I would have painted the picture just like the photo.

Thank you, Suzette, for your beautiful words that always keep me inspired, motivated and smiling.
