Are there any sites that allow you to self-publish for free?

We know there are many sites that will charge a nominal fee for self-publication;but are there any sites that will publish your work for free?

I know you can self-publish on Amazon for your writing to be available on the Kindle Store.  It's not exactly free, but you don't need to pay a fee up front or anything.  They just take a portion of your earnings.  I hope this helps!

My book is on Amazon and it was done free.  Actually Hubpages is a site that publishes our work for free.  But to have a book in hand is going to cost and it isn't cheap.

Smashwords is another possibility - they don't charge for anything up front and will even provide a free ISBN. They DO take commission on each sale, however, and not everyone has success with them as they have a bit of a reputation for being a place to get good books for free.

The only way, as far as I can tell, to distribute ebooks for free is to set up your own e-commerce site...but then you have to pay merchant fees. Ah well.

My answer is go to Blurb.com -- no, they're not free but you can order ONE copy of your book if  that's what you want and then they put your work  as an ebook up for free or $1.99 -- whichever way the wind's blowing that day. They also have their own store and assist you with selling your work on your website, etc. I like them immensely and they are affordable. Their charge for books begings at something like $5.95 or $6.95 -- lots of good opportunities here.

Try LuLu.com that also offers a free ISBN and help on promoting your book.  The minimum amount of pages for the book got to be 32 pages and you get to use the self publishing website to design your own book  cover.  Most of the books sell for $7.95.

Lulu.com is not only a free self-publishing site, but they are or were accredited through the better business bureau. Through that site, you can have your material published, copy-written, and sold. Thing is, in order to obtain a copy of your published book, you will need to pay the cost of the manufacturing and shipping. Also, a percentage of each book sold will be given to lulu, and the rest of that percentage is yours to keep. Check it out! There is sooo much you can do with that site! smile

Kindle is the best. I also published on Amazon which allows people to order print copies that are made to order. They also allow you to design a cover during their step-by-step publisher and even provide a template for the text. Takes a while the first time but at the end you'll have a 'published' book complete with a free ISBN number.

What's great about kindle is the reviews section where you get feedback. They also have a first time publishers offer to help you get started.

    ALL FREE!!

Look forward to your book wink)

With the advent of the internet there are millions of amateur writers filling article based websites with their musings. While a lot of these writers have less talent than a hamster, some of these writers are actually excellent and possess all the... read more

    Booksie.com

    wattpad.com

Booksie is a good place to post edit and publish work. It also allows you to publish the work as a free ebook.

    Wattpad is much the same.
