Poem: The Tree Outside My Lab World
Almost three years had gone
since my feet touched this ground.
I saw you alone and silent.
I have no clue of my real excitement.
When I got in, a working world comes in.
Too busy to appreciate things outside,
too tired to take a glimpse.
But when everything gets heavy out of the blue,
when boredom caress my day-
I always seek you.
A view outside the fire exit door.
There you are, steadily swaying with the wind
together with the gigantic mountains, the vast sky, and the golden field.
Delighted when the sun’s radiant beams touches your greenish face.
You spot me, I smile.
You never forget to greet me whatever your mood is,
whatever your look may seem, you’re still there…waiting.
Alone but still standing.
There are times that it seems your lifeless when the last leaf drops…
But you’re brave, your life goes on.
You can manage to be so magnificent when the right time comes.
I’m glad to hear your name—fire tree it is!
Can’t figure out why such a name.
But whatever it is, it doesn’t matter.
Appreciating you gives me inspiration,
unleash me from sheer desperation.
I’m happy to meet you, glad that I’ve found you.
And I still want to see you there
even another three years from now.
