Hudson River Vignettes (a poem)
Hudson River Vignettes
The Hudson River roils with swells
as though it were a miniature sea
astride the gray towers of Manhattan,
but I prefer the Hudson way upstream
at least as far as the open Tappan Zee
where we can follow woodsy riverside trails
from high ridges switching back and forth
down to the river's edge or walking along
the pier and Piermont to be surprised by a
few fishermen and their own native totem pole.
But just to enjoy the sweeping views of the
mighty Hudson River cutting through hundreds
of misty gray mountains is surely quite enough!
