The Chimes Tower

Among the beautiful outdoor gardens is a structure called the Chimes Tower. The original Chimes Tower was constructed by Longwood Gardens founder, Pierre du Pont, in 1929-1930. It was based on a similar structure which he had seen in France.

The original chimes were replaced in 1956, with an electric carillon made in the Netherlands. It contains 62 cast bells, weighing over 38,000 lbs. The lower stairway of the tower is open daily to the public.

Fountains and Fireworks Spectacular

Longwood Gardens can be visited year round, and there are special events held, including the famous Fountains and Fireworks spectacular, which is held from May through September each year.

My favorite event is the Longwood Gardens Fountains and Fireworks Event, held each year from May through September. It combines spectacular fireworks, beautiful music, and colorfully illuminated fountains.

Here is a sneak peek at some of the spectacular fountains and fireworks:

Hi Easyweb

WOW, fabulous, amazing place and pics. Have bookmarked for a time when I might have a chance to visit. The work involved to keep those gardens is truly worth it and the results are truly stunning.

Thanks for writing and sharing. Voted up and shared.
