Lagotto Romagnolo

Updated on December 11, 2007

Laggotto Ramagnolo is pronounced like this Laggotto Rrro-manyolo.

History

Can you guess where they were originally from ??? ITALY! They use to be working dogs, or would search for truffles. Now that keen scent is gone from not doing work so forth. And use to be in packs.

Behavior

Laggotto's are in the sporting group. They are easy to trian and very loyal to its' owner. They are well known for being smart and happy dogs, they are very athletic for dog courses but they do love to play frisby and take romps or long long walks. If you don't want to put them in competition than it's best you keep its' mind working. You could play hide and seek or look for mushrooms or chase, those were just some ideas. Becuase they are allergy friendly and smart , medium size and non shedding coat they are very popular in Europe, specialy Sweden. Many think it is a perfect dog others .... have they're own opinion.

Living Conditoins

Lagottos' are fine for apartment life, if exercised enough. It doesn't matter where you live actually, you just have to take themm for walks 2-3 times a day. If you have gardens and you still want your flowers then best to fence it off or they'll put where they think it's best. Dig! Dig! Dig! that's their nature, they can dig a good sized hole in a matter of seconds! In puppyhood you could probably train them out of it.

Exercise

The Lagotto needs plenty of exercise. It loves to search for things and retrieve. They love to walk next to the owner and need good long walks. They are also good well known swimmers. Some have even tipped over water bowls and make big puddles or love to play in mudd and other gooey stuff.

Life Expectancy

Many have been known to live upto 16 years or more !!!

Grooming

Its' denses, curly coat needs regular care. When buying a Lagotto some breeders will say different things. Others will say, just clip its coat twice a year nothing more nothing less. Some say, just comb it twice a day once in the morning ,one right before bed time.

Height and Weight

Males will weigh upto 28-35 pounds.

Females will weigh upto 5-6.5 pounds.

Males height is usually 17-19 inches.

Females height is usually 14-16 inches.

So what do you think, would you want one ?
