REVELATION: The Way To The Knowledge of God
REVELATION : The Way To The Knowledge of God
"My Father has given me authority over everything. No one really knows the Son except the Father, and no one really knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. "
Luke 11 :22
Not all will be privileged to have a revelation of the Father. His revelation will only be given to whom Jesus Christ choose to reveal His Father.
Even though a certain person has spent his entire savings in buying books about knowing God , he will not know God unless Christ choose to reveal the Father to him. We can only know God, when Christ reveal Him . No one can find God on his own even the most pious person cannot know God on His own.
John Wesley, the evangelist with a burning heart is a very pious seeker of God since his youth. Having raised in a godly home environment, he has intention throughout youth to discipline his life methodically for a holy life. He only found God at the age of thirty-five while a passage from Martin Luther was being read. Wesley reported that his heart was "strangely warmed," and from that day on he became a proclaimer of the glorious witness of the Spirit to salvation.
Young Martin Luther fully dedicated himself to monastic life , the effort to do good works to please God and serve others through prayer for their souls yet peace with God escaped him. He devoted himself to fasts, flagellations, long hours in prayers and pilgrimages and constant confessions. But all these things appeared to be in vain for the more he tried to do for God , it seemed the more aware he became of his sinfulness.
But one day God revealed the Truth to him, while searching through scriptures he encountered the passage which came as a revelation to him, "the righteous shall live by faith." Then he rediscovered the way to salvation as it was known by the Christians of the first few centuries after Christ death. Luther believed now that salvation is wholly a work of God.
I was led to a Christian church at the age of 18. In that church I attended leadership institutes, living discipleship camps, intensive discipleship camps where I received full instructions about Christianity and its major doctrines. And I was also placed under the cell group discipleship program of the church. But throughout all these procedures I never receive revelation of God nor have been intimate with Him and never experienced victory over recurring sins such as lusts and selfish ambitions. Only after seven years God revealed Himself to me through a woman from a different church who invited me to a one-on-one study of the WORD with her. Only then I discovered the "deeper life" of Christianity.
For a closing, let me quote from George Fox,
"My desire after the Lord grew stronger and zeal in the pure knowledge of God and JesusChrist alone without the help of any man , book or writing. For though I read from Scriptures that spoke of Christ and of God, yet I know Him not , but by revelation as He who hath the key did open, and as the Father of Life drew me to His Son by His Spirit."
We should all desire and seek no less than the revelation of God in our life more than seeking for a religion. We should keep on asking Christ to reveal the Father to us.
