What is Knoji?
In the last couple of days a lot of freelance writers got a shock when they kept getting redirected to Knoji. Knoji redirect sounded suspiciously like a virus and caused a lot of people to panic. So, what is Knoji and is it dangerous?
What is Knoji?
Luckily, there is no reason to panic. There isn't such a thing as Knoji virus and the Knoji redirect has a solid reason behind it. Basically, Knoji is nothing more than a rebranding of Factoidz, a popular revenue sharing article writing website. When Factoidz changed its domain and site names to Knoji, they started using 301 redirect. This made it possible for users to access the new site when they typed "factoidz.com" in their address bar. Using the 301 redirect also allowed Knoji to keep links to all previously written Factoidz articles live.
Why did people think it was a Knoji redirect virus?
Well, the answer is pretty simple. Knoji staff didn't bother to inform Factoidz writers about the name and domain change. It's common practice for companies to announce significant changes like this in at least one newsletter (better a couple in case some people miss the first one). In addition to that, most companies post an announcement on the old website, letting people know of the change in advance. Knoji (Factoidz) didn't bother with all this. As a result, when people started getting redirected and asked themselves "what is Knoji", they though it was a Knoji virus. On top of that the name "Knoji" sounds a lot like some viruses of the past, so it's not at all surprising that people thought their computers got infected with something. Luckily, it wasn't so.
What can Knoji offer to freelance writers?
Knoji kept the Factoidz model of revenue share and payments. This means that writers won't need to spend time figuring out how Knoji works. Just in case, here is a recap of what writers can expect from Knoji:
- Revenue share for published articles
- Activity bonus every time a new article is published
- An option to write product reviews and comparisons for an upfront bonus plus revenue share
- Affiliate program
- Monthly payments through PayPal
- No minimum payout amount
When it comes to payout rates, Knoji gets a bit complicated. You see, the amount of money you earn depends on a number of factors. For a start, it depends on what Knoji calls a payout rank. This is a rank they give to each article topic depending on its popularity and earnings potential. Typically, articles about computer and software get a High payout rank, whereas articles about history and so on get a Low payout rank. The second factor is SEO rank. Every day Knoji analyses the position of your articles for your keywords in Google. The higher your article appears in Google, the higher the SEO rank. Then it all depends on the number of views. The more there are, the more you earn.
Knoji activity bonuses are a nice thing because they allow you to accumulate revenue quickly by simply publishing articles. When you first join Knoji, your activity bonus is pretty low ($0.10). But as your experience grows, you start getting higher bonuses. The maximum activity bonus you can get is $10. Pretty good, isn't it?
Knoji user levels
Those who were familiar with Factoidz remember that the website had different user levels - Factoidz Writer, Staff Writer and Featured Writer. Staff and Featured writers could publish articles without having to wait for an editor to approve them and could edit existing articles. They also got higher activity bonuses. Well, Knoji pretty much kept this system in place, but changed the rules a bit. Now the levels are Knoji Contributor (equals Factoidz Writer), Knoji Expert (equals Staff Writer) and other levels that are a reflection of a member's authority. It's not yet clear what benefits writers with more authority get.
Now you know the answer to the question "What is Knoji?". There isn't such a thing as Knoji virus. Knoji is good old Factoidz with new design and better usability. If you are a freelance writer, you can join Knoji and start earning revenue writing articles online.
UPDATE: Due to a high number of bickerish and spammy comments I've decided to close them.
