Is it Authoritarianism? (an enraging rant)
Just WHO is being arrogant?
I have recently written a hub expressing America’s Exceptionalism. I pointed out to where many Americans today believe that we have become arrogant. Mr. Bush has been deemed arrogant with some of his “cowboy” tactics. The following is yet another enraging RANT of mine over this current administration.
I think arrogant is more of a description of our current POTUS, who last week expressed his arrogance when he once again decided to NOT follow our Constitution and by-pass our means of “checks and balances”. In an unprecedented fashion he used his executive authority to appoint Richard Cordray to become director of the new and highly contested Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). His only explanation was “We can’t wait!” , so a “Recess” appointment was made, but the only problem was there was NO recess. Along with Cordray, he made two other appointments to the National Labor Relations Board which neither one have had any formal background checks on them that is required by law, to determine any potentially conflicts of interests that they may have had in their past. This is clearly goes against the Senates ‘advice and consent’ duties put in place to weed out nominees who are not deemed appropriate to fulfill the position at task. To boot, the rules also demand that action cannot be taken on any nominee until five days after the paperwork is filed, which was also violated.
According to former U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese “Never before has a president purported to make a ‘recess’ appointment when the Senate is demonstrably not in recess,” and further stating that this is a “constitutional abuse of a high order”.
What did his “arrogance” accomplish through this undermining task? Well, now the newly instituted CFPB has complete authority to issue more regulations and red tape without congress approval to business’ across our land that could completely strangle business growth and the NLRB now has expanded powers to strengthen Unions that is already putting a damper on the badly needed jobs in this country.
The time has come where all citizens concerned by the actions of this president must take a stand against him and his arrogant authoritarianism.
