We miss you Kanaka.
Today afternoon our kanaka a sweet lady with a smile for everyone went for some work on the roof of her house.A small length of her terrace boundary grill had fallen. She just went there perhaps to touch it to see if it will fall down on the ground and hurt some body. She just pushed it a little to test its strength and it gave away as she lost her balance and fell down 30 feet on the ground.Blood was perhaps oozing from her head as her head was tied by some body.No one including her old husband could rush her to the hospital. She lay on the ground having lost her breath.Seeing her motionless the ignorent people thought her dead and let her die.
Kanaka was a sweet lady loved by all in our street.I would meet her often on my walk and see her smile which I loved so much. She would buy vegetables for her meals and also for her husband. He was a silent man a technocrat in telecommunication.A write of few books on his expeditions in Himalayas and other holy places.A soft spoken person who loved his wife and life in simple environment.Peace was his favorite.Their sons were married and as is the present day trend they lived separately with their wife's.I think they had no daughter.I went with my wife only once and she gave me a cup of coffee which we could not reciprocate as she left us so suddenly.
Kanaka's husband had purchased a house in ISKCON estates on the out skirts of Bangalore south a place so quite that you could hear a pin drop on the ground. They were planning to move out of our area shortly and only yesterday evening I had met her near Kannika temple and as usual our talk was you come you come,we came you come. How did I know Fate would take her the very next day in a simple fall. She thought of seeing that no one gets hurt and she died checking it out and fate dragged her in one swift move and she died with out even saying a word. She perhaps was in a shock as the grill gave away when she pushed it.
I did not go to see her dead body. She was young perhaps in her late 50's very simple and charming with a free smile for all.
Kanaka was perhaps not dead, she would have fainted,The stupid people in the neighbourhood very ignorant of such cases simply thought that she could not survive the fall and allowed her to die.I do not know how well her husband who was present took the case. She was not taken to a hospital. No Ambulance was called. Our Indian mentality was in full force, how can a person survive a fall that too a lady of over 50 years from a fall of over 30 feet.Few have survived a fall of such type.
Our Kanaka the Charming Sweet Lady of our street was not dead but she was allowed to die by the stupidity of our society in which we live. Why did this happen.Death in our country is more often due to ignorance than real truth. The real truth is Ignorance,Is it all pure Ignorance,no it is also a case of negligence.
Our area is full of hi tech hospitals with expert doctors and Kanaka was by no means poor or was not capable of meeting any expenses in case she was taken to a hospital. It was unfortunate she died due to our ignorance and carelessness.
We miss you sweet Kanaka,we pray for your soul to rest in peace.
