Let The Games End
Let Us Pray
Good Morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, January 23, 2017. Our pious friend, Manny, is at the breakfast table this morning. He is looking forward to a new dawn in our nation. President Trump is in the Oval Office and President Obama is on the golf course. That alone is a very, very good sign of great things to come. Manny has asked for the pleasure of your company this morning. He has prepared an elaborate feast for all the Poppers. There will be scrumptious waffles, homemade jams, fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs with truffles, croissants, sweet rolls and bagels. I will be offering lattes, Irish coffees and Bloody Marys. It is time to celebrate the dawn of a better America. We hope to see you soon.
He's Gone!
President Obama is on vacation and out of the White House, and we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief. His stay in Washington symbolized what the word "failure" means. He came into office to "change" our nation, but the "change" he wanted was to the detriment of America and its citizens. His vision for our country was not what we needed or wanted, and in the end his tenure will go down as a complete failure. His strange and compelling desire to close down GITMO never made sense in light of the state of the world and the threat of terrorism. Why he felt so driven to shut it down is the stuff of speculation for historians, but for me it spoke of misplaced loyalties. His insistence on referring to ISIS as ISIL was also an example of a need to protect Islam. Often that need seemed to trump his obligation to protect Americans. He spoke of the deficit and promised to cut it in half. That never happened. He promised jobs, but that never happened either. His stimulus failed and the money just flowed out of taxpayer's wallets into the pockets of his friends with failed ideas for energy. Obamacare was a monumental failure filled with false promises and hopes. His handling of foreign affairs turned our allies away and emboldened our enemies. His only "success" was in degrading our nation in the eyes of the world. Worst of all is the way the first black president in American history ratcheted up the racial divide insuring that his dear friend, Al Sharpton, would have plenty of causes to inflame for a long time to come. His plane took off for Palm Springs, and the hopes of millions of Americans soared. Maybe now, we could finally get back on track, and get this nation moving in the right direction.
The Core Issue
Now the work begins, but the job ahead for the Trump administration will be made even harder by the sore losers in Washington and the media. Sen. Schumer should stop playing games and give President Trump the cabinet he and this country deserve. Schumer's childish and irresponsible desire to slow things down and make Trump suffer speaks volumes about his character. His behavior says loud and clear that he has far more invested in preventing good things from happening than in seeing our new president succeed. The same can be said of the Democrats who are questioning Trump's cabinet choices Their questions are inane, insulting and filled with false narratives. Those in Congress who chose not to attend the inauguration made colossal fools of themselves. I hope they pay a price for their infantile and disgusting behavior. The inauguration is a celebration of the presidency, not the man. The protestors did their level best to upset the inauguration, but they failed as well. All they accomplished was the destruction of businesses in Washington, D.C. I wish the police had reached epic numbers in arrests. It would have sent a powerful message to those who get paid to hate our country.
Stop the Tug of War
Governing this nation is not a game. We have only one president and that president deserves the support of Congress. We can't afford that kind of thinking any longer. A great deal of damage has been done to our reputation and our ability to hold an important role of leadership in the world. We need to restore our nation's reputation and capability. To attack President Trump before he has had a chance to govern is to put partisan politics above accomplishment. To attack President Trump before he has set about to turn things around is to tell the nation that opposing the Republicans is more important than keeping a promise to govern and make America Great Again. We need cooperation and bi-partisan governing and we need it now. Washington must not fail us again.
Manny's Song
The moment I wake up
Before I stretch my wings
I say a little prayer for you....
