Much Needed Sequestration

Enough Already Obama...

The Count Down To Doom?

What is happening in Washington DC right now is the height of hypocrisy. That pertains to all of them on both sides of the aisle. Goodness I hate that expression because they're still the same thieves just in different party clothing with different party favors. We have crybaby Obama in one corner who created the sequester in the first place and Speaker Boehner in the other with his posse who was in cahoots from the get go trying to stave of a supposed default that wasn't going to happen in the first place because there is enough tax revenue coming in to pay the interest on the national debt. It's the same old same old just sung to a different tune.

Everyone up there trying to run things know well that the spending levels they have hit consistently for too many decades is unsustainable. This isn't about taxes, which Obama calls revenue, this is about spending gone haywire. The General Accounting Office (GAO) just said it again and the Congresional Budget Office (CBO) has been consistent with the same message. But it's like all those we have elected, or too many of them at this point, are stone cold tone deaf. They just want to continue to spend money like they have it.

Kick The Can Washington Style

They've kicked it and kicked it and kicked it again trying to avoid the inevitable. What's that? Actual, real spending cuts and not artificial reductions in future spending growth. That's exactly what they have been reducing and if you don't know that then you know it now. Obama's pulling out all the usual class warfare stops crying about the federal government needs even more of our hard earned tax dollars so that he can continue on his drunken sailor spending binge to protect us from ourselves. That guy knows how to play the fear card better than Al Sharpton knows how to play the race card.

Someone tell me how you can cut 2.something trillion from the budget and increase the federal budget deficit by $5.9 trillion in just four short years. When you show me how that works I'll show you how three card Monty works. Obama makes it sound like cutting a mere 2% in actual spending is going to make the world stop functioning and life change significantly as we know it. It doesn't work that way. That's called "lets scare the hell out of them" politics and Obama is a master of that art.

So What? We Need An Axe Not A Butter Knife

The nitwits that supposedly represent us call the cuts "deep." They aren't deep enough and they know it. They talk the talk but avoid walking the walk. You ever notice that? $85 billion out of a $3,600 billion budget (another way to express that is $3.6 trillion) isn't deep at all. It's the tip of the over spending. This is basically the same crowd that has sat up there election cycle after election cycle screwing things up. Do you really expect them to fix what they made a mess out of.

The Republicans need to grow a set of gonads and quickly. Their message needs to become, and stay this way:

Current spending is unsustainable. The man on the street even knows that.

2% is small compared to what needs to happen to avoid going bankrupt.

That political party, if it controlled all of the government, might make the cuts differently but it doesn't.

Congress appropriates and the executive spends the money to run the departments and agencies, not the other way around.

If in fact Obama's response is to tell the public that if what he designed actually will result in criminals being released from jail and doomsday for our food inspection program then he and anyone who believes that is a complete moron.

What we are now witnessing is what happens when people who have never held a real job become either the CEO of a nation or write the laws for the governance of those who have entrusted them with the welfare of our nation. Most of us know how to run a budget on a daily basis. They have no clue. We know when the money gets thin so does our life style. Present gas prices right now illustrate that very vividly.

So what is happening is that the agencies in the form of Obama are threatening to close popular services first. That's called using public fear to get your way and IS NOT how our government should function. King George III tried that and look what happened.

The sequester needs to happen. Obama designed it and he now needs to man up and suck up his inexperience. After that occurs they need to get to work with true entitlement reform. They keep talking about it but that involves economic pain. That is going to happen one way or the other so we need to get on with it. Whether they get reelected or not is of no consequence to those of us who actually pay the bills. They screw it up and need to be history.

It's Always,

FP, Obama has several split personalities. We've seen Messiah, Golfer, Pseudo-Executive and now Huckster. I'm somewhat amazed that he's been able to manage so many of these personalities and now he's fighting with himself. Watching him is better than any soap opera, and all the people who have elected him to another term in office deserve him. The rest of us just have to hold on tight for another hard ride.

Obviously, as you so clearly point out, this is just another "watch this hand" move by an incompetent (and in my opinion evil) administration! Keep 'em comin', Frog. Best/Sis

"agencies in the form of Obama are threatening to close popular services first" Simple solution: give the President transfer authority; can (and should) be done by congress in one day. Without transfer authority, “you can’t shift the money around…There’s no ability to ship money to high priority projects, and you know, low priority takes the cut. Everybody gets a cut regardless.”

Charles Krauthammer says President Obama could easily reduce the fear and panic engendered by the looming sequester if he would simply push Congress to pass a bill allowing a transfer of funds from less important federal accounts to more important federal accounts.

“And the president is the one who ought to propose it,” Krauthammer told Fox News on Wednesday. “He won’t, of course, because he is looking for a fight, and not a solution.”…

…Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the former head of the Congressional Budget Office, said unless Congress gives federal agencies transfer authority — and lawmakers could pass a bill to do that — layoffs may happen, because agencies won’t be able to shift money from less important accounts to more important accounts.

Holtz-Eakin told Fox New’s Brett Baier on Wednesday that the sequester requires indiscriminate, across-the-board reductions in the growth of spending, half of them affecting the Defense budget and half affecting non-defense spending.

“But when you get underneath the surface, the federal budget is divided into thousands of different accounts,” Holtz-Eakin explained. “Each account gets cut by the same amount, regardless of what’s in it. So, we have some accounts that are payroll, some accounts that are conferences, travel, whatever it may be. They’ll get the same cut, regardless of what’s in there.”

In the meantime, we have people telling us that the nearly $17 trillion debt is not a problem!

A family of four now owes $200,000 that the ruling political class has borrowed in their name! A child born today owes $50,000 before he takes his first breath!

This is insanity, but the ruling political class on both sides is more afraid of losing an election than they are of the looming economic disaster.

Bring it on! I am so sick and tired of the empty lying rhetoric and hysterics. A complete moron knows that you can't keep spending money you don't have. I can only conclude that Washington is populated by people who don't possess one functioning brain between them. Up and awesome.

Will, but you are forgetting - we are all equally in debt, according to liberals it is most important that we are all equal, I mean that's only "FAIR" .

"...according to liberals it is most important that we are all equal..."

True, and since we can't all be equally rich, we'll all have to be equally poor.

While I agree both sides are to blame, I don't think they can't do math. They aren't that dumb. They are destroying our nation. They know that. We can't trust any of them and yes, Sir; Obama is a master of deception, scare tactics and pass the buck. The fact that so many in our nation believe what he says like the gospel regardless of the mountain of evidence to the contrary is a true indication of how deep we are in it!

Hi Frog,

Everything you say is right on the mark. Apart from the defense aspect, sequestration is not going to bring either the federal government or the nation to a screeching halt. Obama is using it as a scare tactic to force GOP's into agreeing to further tax hikes. As stupid as sequestration is, as it does not focus cuts logically, we really need to let it happen so Congress takes a first step to cutting spending. I know it's a tiny step, and will do nothing to reduce our debt load, but from small beginnings larger things can evolve.

We are currently spending about $3.6 trillion per year via the federal current account. Incredibly, only about $1 trillion of this pertains to federally enumerated powers, and I'm sure part of that amount contains fraud and waste. Out of the $2.6 trillion that is being spent unconstitutionally, about $2 trillion relates to federal entitlements, and $600 billion relates to enforcement of federal laws and regulations that are ultra vires to the federal government. The federal government has no enumerated power to even operate entitlement programs. In fact all federal regulations, even those pursuant to federally enumerated powers, are unlawful because the Congress possesses no enumerated power to cede its law making function to the Executive branch. The Administrative Procedure Act putativley gives Congress this authority, but this act is conventional domestic law, and hence cannot legally be utilized to create a non-enumerated power to cede authority from one branch of the federal government to another; this violates both the Tenth Amendment (in regard to federally enumerated powers) and the Supremacy Clause (overriding the Constitution via conventional federal law).

It's ugly, but we simply have to face the fact that the only way to solve the federal debt crisis is to devolve all federally usurped powers back to the states. Since the states cannot print money, or borrow endlessly, entitlements will be means tested and benefit levels reduced, and the cost of enforcing devolved powers will go down (state taxpayers will demand it to avoid intolerable state tax hikes). Were such mass devolution to take place, the federal government would run a current account surplus of about $1 trillion per year, and could pay off the official federal debt within 15-20 years (if interest rates on rollovers don't increase). Further, almost all of the off balance sheet liabilities could be summarily cancelled, and the special issue treasury securities that "fund" them could be abrogated.

While the above demonstrates that our fiscal crisis can be fixed, our monetary crisis has no simple solution. With a bank reserve ratio requirement of 10% of assets, we only need about $1.7 trillion of fiat money to support our $16 trillion GNP (due to the multiplier effect of fractional reserve banking). We already know that the Federal Reserve has been printing multiple trillions of dollars every year for stimulus and bailout purposes. The current liquidity trap (low loan demand) is leaving most of this money in bank vaults. But if a recovery ever occurs, this enormous (tens of trillions of dollars) excess fiat money will start to circulate in the economy, and be multiplied due to the velocity effect of fractional reserve banking. Hyperinflation may destroy the value of the dollar against foreign currencies. Since so much of American manufacturing is now final assembly, business will not be able to pay for production inputs currently sourced from abroad. That means mass business closures, and soaring unemployment. We're essentially talking about an "inflationary depression," not unlike the stagflation of the 1970's, but on a Weimar Republic scale. We don't have the luxury of soaking up the excess fiat money by selling more treasury bonds, because we already have a debt crisis too.

I'm beginning to wonder whether the FEMA camps and massive order for hollow points by the DHS might relate to the potential monetary breakdown explained above. Were unemployment to reach catastrophic levels due to a dollar collapse, there would no doubt be rioting in the streets on a nation-wide basis. Even the few that remain employed would be in terrible shape, because mass business closure means that even if you have an income, there will be very little available to buy. The economy would devolve into a highly inefficient barter system, and virtually everybody would be unable to obtain vital goods and services, like food, medicine, gasoline, etc.

I know it's very hard to predict the future, but I think we may already be past the point of no return.

You called it right....the whole bunch is rotten to the core. The eggs have been going bad since LBJ took office and now they are rotten. The Great Society has brought us to the forefront of bankruptcy as a nation with little of substance to show for all the dollars wasted along the way. It is time for all of us to wake up. Polly,

Does this have anything to do with the Administration releasing large numbers of illegal-alien criminals into the general population? Some people are calling this an impeachable offense.

After they pretty much outlawed civilian gun ownership in Australia (after a mass shooting in 1986), gun ownership actually went up. The black market in illegal guns exploded, in effect more heavily arming criminals, and leaving innocent people unprotected. Australians can still legally own guns for sporting (target shooting and hunting), but self defense is nearly impossible as guns stored in the home must by law be locked in a safe. If you are attacked, you don't have enough time to obtain your firearm.

This office doesn't follow the consitutional authority on many laws and issues. It is only a matter of time before the executive branch single handedly rules over the others.
