Not So Golden School Days

Buzzy is at the Table

Good Morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Our dear friend Buzzy, the proverbial fly on the wall, is with me today. He just returned from a "fly by" in Tennessee and he has something to report about what children are being taught. Please join us for breakfast. Buzzy and I will be serving freshly baked corn bread with butter and jelly. A delicious Irish Coffee will be the crowning touch to the meal. See you soon.

Brainwashing in the Schools

Thank you all for joining me this morning. I have been in Tennessee for awhile, spending a good deal of time in the schools. When I was not in the classroom, I was knee deep in the texts being used by students. What I discovered is sickening. Children are being taught that Israel is the cause of trouble in the Middle East. A group that weeds out and fights anti-Semitism has asked the governor of Tennessee to launch an investigation. Not only is anti-Semitism implicit in the books, but anti-Christian sentiments are there, as well. The texts are completely inaccurate about our history and loaded with deliberate misinformation to twist young minds from elementary school through high school. In one of the schools students were being taught about Nation of Islam Louis Farrakhan and his hideous accusations about Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.

Islam Taking Precedence

Increasingly, public schools have been eliminating Judeo- Christianity from public schools. In its place are discussions about Islam. Needless to say, the information is inaccurate and biased. Texts give a totally false description of Islam's treatment of women. They never talk about a husband's legal right to beat his wife. Students will not be reading about "honor killings" which permit the murder of a daughter who dates a Christian.

My focus today is on Tennessee, but many of the same things are going on in other states. One of those states is Florida which teaches gullible children that just a few followers of Jesus spread the story of his resurrection. The text teach Florida students that the Quran permitted fair, defensive warfare, known as jihad. The purpose behind much of the texts is to undermine the teachings of the Bible and to introduce a completely inaccurate view of Islam.

Common Core Makes It Worse

In conjunction with this whitewashing and distortion of history comes the implementation of Common Core standards throughout our nation. The original purpose of Common Core was in and of itself not heinous. It started out as an attempt to raise standards in the schools and make the United States more competitive with other countries. As do most things involving the federal government, something went awry. Schools were losing their autonomy and in many cases their standards were being lowered. The regulations attached to the program are narrow and restrictive. Testing will be all important and in the process something essential will be gone from the teacher student relationship. Although the original goal of the program was to make educational standards consistent throughout the nation, the true result is that education has become political and totally inappropriate. The net effect is that our children are being brainwashed. The future leaders of America won't know a damn thing about America and I can't imagine anythng worse happening.

Get Involved

Between Common Core and the textbook industry, our children are in jeopardy. That puts all of us in danger. The only thing we can do is get involved. Whether it is your children or grandchildren, stay on top of things. Read the textbooks and make a huge stink about inaccuracies, bias and downright lies. This past year has shown support for Common Core to be waning. The more states and teachers learn about the program, the less they like it. The federal government has introduced financial incentives to make supporting the program advantageous. Giving up this kind of financial support is not easy, but more and more states are opting out. In light of the facts that are emerging about this program, opting out is a good thing.

Ignorance is not bliss. Find out what's going on and do something about it.

Buzzy's Song

School Days, school days

Not so golden school days

Lies, distortion and bias are the way

Get informed and save the day!

If I were going to transform the world into "My World," the obvious place to start would be in our education system. These empty little heads are ripe to fill with any knowledge I choose to place there.

Many of today's parents are totally involved with trying to pay the bills and put food on the table, and don't get involved with a child's education. This is even more true now that many have been cut to 30 or less hours per week thanks to Obamacare.

So the big question is who is making these decisions and driving these changes in our education system? I would guess that many who wish to change the world to "Their World" have wormed their way into the decision making level of the system. They need to be stopped but first we need to find out who they are. Not just their names, but who they really are.

Pop and Buzzy,

Good job. Forewarned is forearmed so I hope your warnings are heeded. The "Race to The Bottom" known as Common Core is another example of Big Government overreach.

Things ha ve certainly changed since Obumma got into the whit3 house. Coincidence ?

Dear Mike,

I know that Bill Gates has a lot to do with Common Core. He may or may not realize how this program is working out, but from all accounts it is a failure. The federal government wants their hand in everything, so controlling education is as big as healthcare. We have to find a way to get the federal government out of our lives as much as possible. I'll be at the Inn reading textbooks!

Good Morning Tom,

If parent don't wise up they will find that their children are total strangers to them, in step with the government and every whacko out there! I'll save you a seat at the Inn.

I taught for eighteen years. I loved teaching and adored the I'm not teaching....because I was no longer allowed to "teach." Enough said. Happy Thanksgiving, my friend.

I know you have shared many schools where this is going on. But what percentage would you estimate of all the schools in the US. Can't parents do something about this? Is anything being done? This is the scariest as the young kids as they grow up will be filled with these ideas. Tonite at the Inn some of my favorite Port.

Good Morning billy,

I hear the same thing all the time. I met a woman the other day who loved teaching. She never thought of it as work until Common Core came to town and she had to treat everyone equally without regard to their ability or needs. Needless to say, she retired. See you at the Inn where common sense is still valued.

Good Morning carol,

All of this is fairly well sprad. My grandson, who is 10, is quite familiar with the program and he says it is holding him back. More and more states are trying to opt-out because their standards were already higher than those imposed by Common Core. As for the texts being changed to express only one point of view, that is happening everywhere. The only thing that can be done is for educators and parents to get together, get informed and make a huge stink. Most educators believe that Common Core is a woefully inadequate set of standards that severely limits understanding the needs of students. Problems are cropping up constantly with regard to inappropriate assignments and testing that has become the focus of teaching. See you at the Inn and we'll talk some more.

Not sure I can add anything to what you wrote here. It's time for some real change after this disaster.

All I can say is that if I were a still student in school and teachers were teaching this stuff, I'd be causing such an uproar that it would make the repercussions that are going on now in the city of Ferguson look like a street carnival.

The problem of misinformation under the guise of education has been done at the college level since the 1960s. Now it has apparently waterfalled tnto K-12.

The Bill Gates foundation spent a pawlty 160 million dollars to fund Common Core Standards. I guess he thinks that he knows a lot about education since he didn't finish college himself, but he is the richest man. IN California we have the largest population and one of the lowerst performing education systems.

The common core should focus on the reading and comprehension level of thes students to given them the basic skill of understanding the language and apply it to the subject.

If a student can't understand the language, then it is difficult to understand any subject. So, if you do one thing for education, it is learning the language.

It disgusts me to find that we are rewriting history to appease Islamists. WHY? Our country is still made up of mostly judeo-christians. Why anyone would put up with this makes me feel that "more wine" is the answer. 2016 will bring much more change; change, though back to our values. I'm off to the bar.....

Happy thanksgiving to everyone!

Pop and Buzzy...Federal law prohibits any officer or agency of the federal government from attempting to influence or control curriculum or instruction in the nation’s public schools.

Since 2002 federal officials have been threading legal needles with the carefully contrived language of “deniability” if they are accused of violating federal law.

No one in Congress has the interest or courage to call for the hearings needed to expose the damage, incompetence, and under the table deals with lobbyists–all enabling the destruction of public education except for the funding that will subsidize for-profit schemes conjured by billionaires who see education of the nation’s young people as a source of profit and, in some cases, opportunity for indoctrination.

We won't have that problem here in Arizona...

Dear Frog Prince,

If we, all of us, don't address this problem our children and gradchildren will be brainwashed and ready to help destroy our nation once and for all. I'll be at the Inn. Get there when you can.

Dear bradmaster,

I think we are reaching a critical point now in terms of education. My kids texts were not filled with false and distorted facts. Sometime after 1967 education took a turn for the worse, but now what we have is a concerted effort to brainwash and dumb down Americans. See you at the Inn.

Dear Pino,

I hope you are right when it comes to 2016, but we are going to have to fight like hell to make it happen. Happy Thanksgiving. Come to the Inn for a toast and a hug,

Dear maven,

Parents, and teachers had better step up to the plate and learn what their kids are learning. The problem of misinformation and distortion is huge. If Arizona has a grip on the situation, that's fabulous. See you at the Inn. Happy Thanksgiving, maven.

It is much easier to control people who are not educated and can't think for themselves. I really don't believe the dumbing down of America was an accident or just poor planning.

breakfastpop profile image

breakfastpop 2 years ago Author

Dear Mike,

I agree with you. The dumbing down of America was a planned effort. If you want to control people you have to make them stupid, pliable and gullible. The whole thing makes me sick. Wish me luck tomorrow. I am going to be spending Thanksgiving with over the top liberals. I am practicing all night how not to engage them in conversation!

Old Poolman profile image

Patti - First off I must ask, why would you spend Thanksgiving with over the top liberals? Perhaps you should consider just putting a strip of duct tape over your mouth. If by chance you learn anything about the liberal thought process, please share with your readers.

Thanks Pop for spreading the word. The coach in our family is really upset.

Because he spends so much time, at tournaments, with his team members he helps with homework. He says all they teach is rote memorization of things that aren't necessarily factual. There is no room for opinion. You fill in the blank exactly the way the book says or it is wrong. Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for letting me know all the paperwork I signed this morning had the wrong date. LOL

Good Morning Mike,

It's not my fault, but my daughter's in-laws are liberal to the max as is everyone else who will be there. I am going to keep my mouth shut no matter what they say, but I keep picturing a great escape! Enjoy the holiday and be glad you aren't coming with me!

Good Morning tirelesstravler,

In my grandson's school, he is marked wrong if he gets the answer right! Try to figure that one out. Enjoy the day!

If parents do not keep on top of things, the children are going to lose out on important life lessons and knowing what America truly is from the roots. The core standards are meant to water down and mislead what once was the truth.

breakfastpop profile image

Dear teaches,

More and more states are opting out of Common Core because they see the danger in it. I hope the trend continues before our children are lost to us. See you at the Inn.
