Obama flies F22 Raptors into Romania.
Eastern European nations have had a keen eye on what the Russians are up to in Ukraine as have Baltic states like Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Putin must be today one of the most dangerous and unpredictable men on the planet as he has taken his nation in the direction of a new cold war with the West.
From his activity in Ukraine and Syria the world is wary of this resurgent Russia and who can blame them. Putin is a gambler but he is no fool and time and again he out smarts his Western opponents like when he pulled back so many Russian planes from the campaign in Syria but left just enough to secure his naval base and continue the fight against the enemies of his man in Damascus - Assad.
President Obama is doing the rounds in Europe as he knows this will probably be his last visit in the shape of being at the helm of the USA and so it seems he has an eye on the future and his legacy whether that be lecturing the British people on which way to vote come the EU in/out referendum or bolstering the defence of eastern Europe.
Obama has recently added more American forces to eastern Europe and the Baltic nations to beef up their defence against any Russian attack or trouble making.
The Americans have flown in two F22 Raptors to Romania where they will be stationed and on active duty in case Mr Putin decides to put his foot over the border into Romania or the trouble from Ukraine spills over into Romania or other parts of eastern Europe.
The F22 Raptors can operate with out being detected by an enemy whether the enemy be in the air or on the ground and can track and destroy any air to air threat or on the ground threat.
The F22 Raptor is a very sophisticated aircraft and operates as America's first line in defence and offence as an air to air fighter or a ground attack plane destroying enemy positions on the ground.
How the Russians will take this will probably be how the Russians have taken everything that the Americans or NATO have done as a threat. However one feels that Putin does not want to get into a shooting with the West if he can help it, take when Turkey shot down a Russian fighter plane in its air space. Putin could have hit back but in attacking Turkey he would have had in theory to be dealing with all of NATO too as the mantra goes when one NATO nation is attacked all are attacked and the collective come to that other nations aid.
There have been other incidents too like when two Russian fighters buzzed an American warship in the Baltic or the constant testing of NATO's air defences when Russian Bear bombers fly near a NATO nations air space and the usual round of NATO fighters come up and escort the Russian bombers away from their air space.
Is Europe safe and the world safe from Russian aggression, one cannot tell as Vlad Putin is a hard man to read it seems.
