Poem - The Implements of War
The Implements of War
Today I saw a demonstration of WWII weaponry; a Tommy Gun; an M1 rifle; a pistol; a flame thrower....
Today I saw the demonstration
Before me the implements of victory
This they said
Because of this weaponry
Our boys lived and theirs died
Everyone cheered and smiled
Yet my heart cried
Was it glory?
Or a tragedy?
Our boys live with the memory
Their boys died along with their story
Can I be sad
For those who were the tools?
Our leaders bathe in platitudes
Our boys burn as fools
We kill
They kill
We all die
Our father's will
Remains in heaven
On Earth
Our bread remains unleavened
And love is trapped in the flames
