Up to 2 millon Children in Sex Slavery
A United Nations Internatioal Children Fund (UNICEF) report has shown that about 2 millionchildren are in the sex slavery industry.
The report, End Child Exploitation: Stop The Traffic, which showed that "International covenants and protocols obligate criminalization of the commercial sexual exploitation of children," however, stated that "as many as two million children are subjected to prostitution in the global commercial sex trade."
The organization higlighted the devastating effect of sex trafficking on children, including, prolonged physcal and psychological trauma, life threatening diseases such as HIV/AIDS, drug addiction, unplanned pregnancy malnutrition, social ostracism, and death.
Noting the fact that no child across the world is immune to being trafficked, the UNICEF report shows that every country of the world is mandated to prohibit child sex slavery. "The use of children in commercial sex trade is prohibited under both the Palermo Protocol and Us law as well as by legislation in countries around the world. There can be no exceptions and no cultural or socioeconomic rationalizations preventing the rescue of children from sexual servitude," it stated.
