   Why do you think some people don't want a job?
   
   We own a small business. I hired a girl who showed up late on her first day and called in every day after for almost two weeks. Then filed for unemployment and got it! It makes me so mad. But also wonder why people don't find value in themselves through their work.

   Wow, she actually got it??  It's like this guy who used to work with me in my last job.  He was drinking in between breaks and finally got caught by my supervisor and was later fired.  Until now he's still collecting unemployment.  It's ridiculous. 
   
   People don't want to be tied down to something they don't like doing.  Most of these people obviously have zero sense of responsibility.  Either they were spoon fed til their adulthood or just plain lazy. 
   
   Their day will come when they stop getting free passes.

   I sold my business in 2004, but I have an answer.  If you give people an opportunity to fail, just like children. they'll take it.  It seems that with the exception of maybe 5 or 10%, humans will take the path of least resistance by nature.  Section 8 housing has a three year waiting list, and applicants still line up in droves.  They are broke today, and they making plans to still be broke three years from now!  So humans will not only fail, but they'll actually PLAN for failure given a way to do so.  The solution is for our government  not to provide so many routes to failure in my opinion.   if you have an oppertunity, I'd appreciate your input on my last two on America in crisis and the real reason Obama ..

   Here is a thought.  Perhaps people who work hard, show up on time, and take pride in thier work see little value in working for someone else for most of their life.  Other than experience, most professions don't offer much these days.  Job security is something you study in a history class.  It seems like every five or six years people get laid off for various reasons.  Unions look like they want to collapse businesses instead of representing the workers.  The older you get the harder is to find a new job.  I am afraid that a lot of good workers are being forced into working for themselves.  The opportunities and rewards are currently concentrated in working for yourself.  The hours are the same, or worse, and the risks are greater; but, it is all yours.  Of course, that means the "labor pool" will be filled with people just wanting to get by.  Most of the competent people I have worked with have ditched their employer for thier own business and are not looking back.

   People have been conditioned to see our government as a source of income. No need to work when you can rely on the government to put a roof over your head and food in your mouth. Also, in many cases, particularly union environments, the guy who puts in a hard day's work and gives 110% gets no more in the way of rewards than the one who is a slacker. The slacker can't be let go until he has committed numerous violations that have all been documented verbally and in writing. By that time he is ready to retire with a good pension! Why would a worker bust his butt when the guy next to him gets the same wages and benefits while avoiding as much work as possible? Another thing is that companies no longer care for their employees and will cut their throat if they think they can bring in an extra dollar, so employees no longer feel any loyalty to companies. It's a two way street. That's not to say that there are not some good companies and some good employees out there. It's just that both are becoming harder and harder to find.
