Do polls showing a slight majority in marijuana approval illustrate a shift in society?
I've written a few Hubs on cannabis dealing with a variety of aspects of the topic, so it interested me yesterday when I heard that 52% of people polled support legalizing the plant. Is this a signal of what is to come? Perhaps additional states legalize or decriminalize within the next election cycle?
I think there is a shift going on. People in my generation (Millennials) are okay with it being legalized, as are libertarians and even some older liberals. The people against it are the moderates and the conservatives.
Moderates can be changed; conservatives cannot. But conservatives aren't winning on any social issue except abortion, so their influence in the debate will continually decrease, and I think in ten years marijuana will be regulated and legal.
Agreed, though I'm cautious to grant such a timeline on the issue. Medical, maybe. I just can't see Texas or Mississippi evolve on the topic within the decade, though I hope I'm wrong. Thanks for the answer!
I can see where you're coming from on that. Some parts of Texas and Mississippi wouldn't allow interracial marriage if the law didn't force them. The feds may step in and say states don't have the right to stop marijuana legalization.
I disagree. The media seems to be favoring the Left. But that does not mean that there aren't people who disagree with what the media is presenting in those polls (biased maybe). There are plenty people who agree with the conservative stance and are silent.
At least in the South, Conservatives are more vocal unlike the ones in the North who seem to be less vocal and hide. Liberalism will NOT win the day. It only wins with young people who are not experienced in life and lack moral responsibility which is not being properly taught these days.
It was in many headlines, so find it and read the description of it. It was national and diverse. Political inaction, or silence, is an invalid concern in an anonymous poll...

Should Trump extend an olive branch to Theresa May to save her job as PM ?Trump might be able to help her stay put by talking to her about a great trade deal with America- thus calming those calling for her to be ousted.

It seem that the EU is adamant that it will appoint Jean-Claude Juncker as president. He is a federalist who is likely not to encourage any reform but to demand closer ties and centralisation of power. David Cameron is dependant on his pledge to give a referendum on Europe and his hope that he...
