Boko Haram and the real problems. Solutions?

Updated on May 15, 2014

On a light note, we believe in just a little slave labor from a young age, it is called family.

Slave Traders and Buyers

Of course it goes deeper than modern day slaving. Of course it goes deeper than one race against another. And lest any culture feels sanctimonious on the issue let them rethink that position. One can probably look around their home and find a copy of a book that is amazingly informative on slavery. Most in the west call it the Bible. But it is replete in the Koran and Torah. Of course we need not go religious, we can find great texts of secular variety showing the horrors of man on man vise a vie the instrument called slavery.

Slavery is a moral human cancer that destroys the essence of humanity. A good place to find what real people think of what we have a right to is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which starts with THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. It can be found here: http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/

The first four articles are succinct and to our point here:

Article 1.

  • All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Article 2.

  • Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

Article 3.

  • Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

Article 4.

  • No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.

Peoples are enslaved but more importantly people are enslaved.

We must stamp out this blight of man.

Funds are needed to combat slavery.

That means appropriations from legislatures. That happens when good people (like the ones reading this ;-) write and call their representatives and insist more go into the battle against slavery.

And there is a little used trick that is actually quite useful. Call and write your police. Tell them you want more emphasis on cracking down on this insidious problem. And do the same with your national/federal law enforcement agencies. Stand up and stand against slavery.

It goes like this. Hooray they busted a new crack house - whooped di do. But put those same resources to busting up a slavery ring and now you have my attention.

And akin to that is donating to shelters and groups on the forefront:

Force of nature

There are two forces of nature working here and it is prime "real estate" for a classic battle of good versus bad. The core of the human trafficking problem rests in the evil hearts of men who would pay for such debase and immoral services or goods. The clear resolution to the problem rests in the good hearts of men to change that evil. We can do it. We have already forced the problem into the darkness of the criminal milieu and we can do better by eradicating the hideous desires in this regard.

We must be reminded that lakes and ponds are filled with millions of drops of water. We may only be that one drop but we are conscious and can bring other drops with us and soon our lakes will fill. Our choice is if we fill that lake with drops of tears or with fresh new life giving water of clarity and purpose.

Is this now a crime against women. Perhaps it is in the sense of who the direct victim is in each case. But it is much more than that and is a cause celebrate for a bridge to show that sex is a variable only in the sameness of humankind. There is no sex difference in these matters of good versus evil.

Again let us be light of spirit as we trudge with purpose

Take what you will.

Perhaps my letter to you, right here right now is a small drop in that large pond. Perhaps it is a call to action. Diverted from Boko Hiram and focused on solutions is how we march forward. Let your light shine on darkness so it loses it's power.
