FOCUS Not Only on CHINA OLYMPICS: Population Explosion

Updated on May 7, 2012

CHINA OLYMPICS (2008)

On August 8, 2008, China opens the games of the 29th Olympiad, an international multi-sport event which is celebrated in Beijing. The games will last until August 24, 2008. 10,500 athletes expected to compete in 302 events in 28 sports.

The whole world focuses on Beijing, China because all the countries have some or more competitors in the Olympics. Day and night, television networks capture the events of the day and newspapers have special daily Olympic editions.

The Olympics lasts only a short 16 days and only memories of the dreams and achievements of the participants remain in the minds of the participants and the various sports clubs. The Olympics will be history soon until the next Olympics come along.

CHINA POPULATION

China has a population of 1.3 billion compared with the world population of 6.6 billion. This compares roughly to one-fifth of the population of the world. In other words, every fifth person in the world is Chinese.

In 1970s such rapid population became apparent and a year later, the Chinese government introduced a "family planning policy," which encouraged late marriage and childbearing. Couples are also encouraged to have a four-year interval between births. However, when China's population approached 1 billion, the policy was changed to "one child per couple."

Recently due to the earthquake of May 12, 2008 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, nearly 2,000 students and teachers died in the schools that collapsed. The government changed its policy of one child per family. Those who lost their children became childless and the government had to do something, and a new policy was enacted. Those who lost their children in the earthquake was allowed to have another child.

Those who have more than one child per family are fined. They do not have benefits like those who obey the law. Those who have more than one child per family tried to find ways of deceiving the government. They go to another city to have their children or they register the children as from another family. They find different means to circumvent or outwit the government.

GOD'S PURPOSE IN CREATION

China's policy of one child per family is contrary to God's law according to God's law of creation. God's purpose in creation is for mankind to multiply and fill the earth.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (28) And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply" (Genesis 1:27-28).

"Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth" (Genesis 8:17).

"And you (Noah), be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein" (Genesis 9:7).

"And God said unto him (Jacob), I am God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of your loins" (Genesis 35:11).

"Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee (Abraham), and multiplying I will multiply thee" (Hebrews 6:14).

"I will muliply them (Israel) them, and they shall not be few: I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small" (Jeremiah 30:19).

GOD'S WAYS

God has shown us how He blesses different people in history by His words, Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, and Israel. Man's thinking is contrary to that of the Lord.

The Almighty God in His wisdom states in Isaiah 55:8-9, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. (v. 9) For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Men are fearful of many things. They may fear that their population explosion cannot be sustained by their economy and find ways to to curb it.. They do not fear God and obey His commandmentsand seek His advice. God, however, controls the destiny of the nations by various means. He causes earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions and other ways to destroy the wicked. In His ways, God has kept the world in check with the world population explosion. Thank and praise the Lord for His glory and wisdom!
