The article “Trump campaign shake-up” states “Trump has named Steve Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News and a former investment banker, to the post of chief executive…
The addition of Bannon -- known for his brass-knuckled demeanor and his website's sharp tone -- came hours after reports surfaced that Roger Ailes, the recently ousted head of Fox News, will begin to advise Trump as he prepares for the presidential debates….
Bannon's ascension solidifies an informal, mutually beneficial relationship between Breitbart, which has unapologetically championed Trump, and the campaign. The website, which Bannon has been closely involved with since its launch in 2007, has also been a center for conspiracy theories about Clinton's health as well as stories about Bill Clinton's alleged treatment of women.”

By any account, Trump's last few weeks have been disastrous. Since the end of the Republican National Convention last month, the businessman has insulted Gold Star parents, encouraged Russian hackers to find Hillary Clinton's deleted emails and proposed that the U.S. not uphold its NATO obligations. He topped the staggering stretch off by, just this past week, suggesting Second Amendment supporters turn their weapons on Clinton as a way to prevent her from nominating her preferred judges if elected.”

His retraction, as the article states, was “In a tweet, the GOP nominee said, "Ratings challenged @CNN reports so seriously that I call President Obama (and Clinton) 'the founder' of ISIS, & MVP." Trump has attacked too many people. He is getting repaid in kind.
It would be easier to list who Trump hasn’t attacked. There are so many people who want to get even with him that he is always being forced to deal with another person or group wanting revenge.
Trump entered the current political world with his vile “Birtherism”. Every Democrat wanted revenge for President Obama because of this. That is roughly 50% of the U.S. population.
Trump didn’t need to attack as many Republicans as he did, but being, a bully Trump couldn’t control himself. Going against the Bushes, Romney and Ryan alienated roughly 20% of the U.S. population.
The basic math of the situation is that Trump will be exceeding expectations if he gets 30% of the vote.
