Gay In The City

I was born in Gainesville, Florida and grew-up in a small farmtown nobody has ever heard of, Santa Fe, Florida. The town is comprised mostly of my family, a very close-knit southern baptist town.

I spent most of my summers with my paternal grandparents, also located in a rural area nobody has ever heard of, Itchetucknee Springs, Florida. They had 300 acres of wooded bliss where I could play in the woods all day with my best friend Sammie, my white german shepard/coyote mix dog.

I worked hard to save money to eventually leave home and move to a small apartment in Gainesville. Life was never easy for me growing-up in the small town because i always felt different.

At the ripe age of 29 I finally realized why I always felt different, because I am gay and I was always trying to please everyone in my life, pretending to be something and someone I was not. Coming out gave me a great sense of relief and a new-found freedom to express my true self.

I did not run out and buy a rainbow flag or participate in the next gay pride event, but I did start to look at the world in a whole new way. The world became a scary place, people were not who they pretended to be and were not so sincere or pure in their gestures. In the gay world it seemed everything came with a price tag or some sort of strings attached.

Since coming out I have dated one guy for any length of time, it ended miserably when I learned he was in a relationship. I was devastated and swore off dating for the next three years. When I returned to the dating scene by posting an ad on Match.com I faced a scary reality... I was now considered old in the gay community, I was past my prime.

Ten years later I am still single and have resolved to the fact I may remain single forever, but I have a great group of friends you will read about in my stories to come and I have a wonderful life. I have been on numerous one-time dates since I re-entered the dating world, you will also read into those through my stories.

This is the story of my life told in a humorous manner for the most part, but also with some very emotional moments that are real and not dramatized.
