J D Murrah on HubPages
Driven by a love of knowledge, psychology, archeology and history, Jeff Murrah enjoys traveling to unique places. Besides writing and homeschooling his three sons (two of which are now doing well at Texas universities), Jeff is a professional counselor and public speaker by vocation, working with couples and families since 1981. His counseling website contains articles on family, and parenting issues (www.RestoreTheFamily.com). A second site focuses on helping couples save their marriages and recover from affairs (www.SurviveYourPartnersAffair.com). Prior to going into private practice, he worked in many psychiatric and medical/surgical hospitals in the Houston area. He has also worked with chemical dependency treatment and homeless shelter facilites. He worked as a Christian Counselor with Rapha for nine years prior to going into private practice. His work has led to him being invited to deliver sermons at churches in Houston, Pasadena and Gonzales, Texas.
In addition to counseling, Jeff also taught psychology courses at San Jacinto College and taught parenting classes at the Star of Hope homeless shelter in Houston. His experiences working with people and teaching have provided him with a broad knowledge base that he shares with people through his articles on family and marriage related issues. His articles have an international distribution. He has been featured on Wall Street Journal Radio and the Larry Elder Show. His articles have been featured as part of the Parent University program of the Pasadena Independent School District along with the Chicago Sun Times, Livestrong, Chefs.com, Southern Patriot and Plaza Lima Sur Magazine. He has alse received requests to use his articles from Australia, Europe and across the United States.
One of his hobbies is researching and writing about history. His love of Texas history and Southern culture led to his writing his two award winning books, None But Texians: A History of Terry’s Texas Rangers (www.NoneButTexians.com), Which received the 2002 Summerfield G. Roberts Award for the Best Book on Texas and Texans during the Civil War and Texans Always Move Them: A True History of Texas, which received the 2007 Presidio La Bahia Award for the Best Book on Early Colonial Texas. He was also named the official historian for the Terry's Texas Rangers re-enactment group (http://www.terrysrangers.us/) which were featured in such movies as "The Postman", "The Patriot", "Gettysburg" and "Ride with the Devil".
Jeff's love of history has also led to his chasing down the Texas embassy locations in European capitols and being commissioned an Admiral in the Texas Navy by Governor Rick Perry for his accomplishments. His travel and research have culminated in his latest history book, Texans Always Move Them: A True History of Texas. The book debuted at the ceremony marking the 100th Anniversary of the Terry’s Texas Ranger Monument at the State Capitol.
Jeff has enjoyed writing since working on his high school (Sam Rayburn High School) newspaper (The Speaker. -Named for Sam Rayburn being Speaker of the House of Representatives). His other published writings include a series of articles on relationships, parenting and his book, The Affair Recovery System. His travel articles include experiences at a haunted castle in Scotland, the National Wallace Monument, and visiting Neolithic archeological sites in Scotland, Orkney and the Yucatan.

Wow , those were some of the kindest words anyone's ever used to describe anything I've EVER done !! In the lifestyle I've led you don't get very many compliments and certainly never with that many syllables !! LOL I hope that with practice I will get to be as descriptive as you just were ,thank you again so very much for those kind and generous words, maybe if you get a chance you could critique my work and let me know how I can get better, I only went to the 7th grade in school and got my GED when I was 15, even though I'm in my second year of college there's only so much a guy can pick up in a semester of Technical Writing , and English Comp.1 !!You seem like your pretty skilled with a pen, I would be anxious to get any tips I could from a guy like you , are you a writer by profession ? Great hubs and like I said if you find time to let me pick your brain I would greatly appreciate ANY tips or tricks you could give me ,and thank you again for the words of encouragement it meant a lot .Your newest and bestest fan - KING

Howdy! Us folks native to Oklahoma don't like to think of it as Texas, you know. We like to think of it as Baja Oklahoma (a very funny novel by the way). I'm new here and have run across some of your hubs. I share your love of history, my family's been in OK for 5 generations..a long time for a state that's just celebrated it's 100th birthday. Best to you!
