Today I work as an artist and businessman and I enjoy a degree of personal and financial success, but it has not always been this way for me. As a life long dyslexic I left school with few qualifications spending most of my life working as a butcher, chef and homemaker.
Dyslexia had made me feel unable to express myself fully. I had often felt misunderstood, frustrated and helpless. Painting allowed me to uncover a new found confidence and the freedom to explore and express my innermost emotions more completely than ever before. I still struggle to sculpt words into the meaningful descriptions that others seam to relate with such apparent ease.
As an artist I have rediscovered myself and found a deeper meaning for life that I had previously not understood. The creation of my art work has become a fundamental part of me driving me to push my own boundaries and assumptions. Painting as I do in oils on canvas with an abstract, realist style that I refer too as “Modernist” as most of my work is emotional and drawn from within and the world around me and includes aspects of the figurative world in an abstract presentation that is not in its self pure abstract art.
To present and display my paintings to a wider audience I created a website www.mjo-art.com allowing others too both consider the implications and interpretations of the world that throws its self into my minds eye. This website became in essence a work of art itself and forced me to develop new skills and self confidence, as a direct result I found the need to expand my personal understanding of the self help and improvement, marketing and business as a whole.
Sadly I have found that paint alone will not pay the bills or put food on the table thus I branched into a number of business and passive income streams to support my work and feed my family, including a domestic cleaning business D.K.M. and property.
Writing has and is still a personal challenge that I constantly struggle with, But I realise that the written word holds immense power and I am resolved to master this aspect of my life. after some consideration I began writing a haphazard blog on ( Yourbetterlife ) about 8 months ago with articles, views and opinions on self-help and personal development as means of furthering and understanding my own thoughts and mind-set. Receiving some positive reactions to my articles, I finally decided to write on hub-pages, both to enable me to grow as an individual and contribute something in return.
