Crafted Confections of Vermont
When my son turned two I began thinking about a career. I have to say I was a bit picky. 1) I didn't want just any job, and my previous life working with emotionally disturbed children had me burnt out and I desperately needed to move away from those sleepless nights. 2) I wanted to be available for my son which meant I would need to work from home. 3) And it had to be something I enjoyed and would do whether or not I got paid to do it. So I started making a list of all the things I enjoyed that I could turn into a career.
Meanwhile, My husband and I were preparing for our first run at making maple syrup and after that first season I was completely hooked! I loved everything about it! I started making maple candy and found that it was a delicate but relatively simple process. It reminded me of the days I used to spend with my mother in the kitchen making chocolates. I remember thinking " wouldn't it be neat if someone came up with a chocolate covered maple candy"? Then boom! "Hey why couldn't that someone be me?" I researched and planned and after several temper tantrums and three burnt business plans, I now have a business and a website called Eagle Hollow Sugar Works. I have since expanded on that original idea to include other maple and chocolates products.
I absolutely love what I do and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share the goodness!
Michele is not a professional chocolatier, nor does she proclaim to be an expert on maple. What she does not have, she makes up for in creativity, a good pallet, and a love of all things chocolate!
