Mick is a proper engineer, you know, one who knows how to use files and saws and mills and lathes, not one that sits in an office and shunts pixels around; excuse all those ands, it's a literary style he sometimes uses:-)
So, that's the job that puts the bread on the table, but what does he do outside of work. He has a 5x4 camera, Shen Hao, that he humps along the river and other beauty spots and takes landscape (film) photos that he develops and prints himself, sometimes resorting to the old processes, cyanotype, salt printing and gum-bichromate.
He used to be a successful watercolourist but basal arthritis, the scourge of engineers, caught up with him and he no longer has full control of the brushes.
He likes to think that he grows bonsai; however, of course, he is fully aware that Mother Nature does the growing, he enjoys the shaping and pruning, but Mother does have ultimate control.
He writes general interest articles, mainly historical profiles, but also little pieces on old technology such as the development of photography, or the history of money etc.
